Question

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my keyboard for some keys. The letters have no issues; however, symbols like @, _, or - ! are found on different keys. I can't get them back to normal despite reinstalling the driver. Is there a special key?

First possibility: you have switched to QWERTY. You need to go to the control panel, then to the regional options icon, and choose the language that corresponds to your keyboard... French, Belgian, ... Or simpler: press ALT + SHIFT simultaneously (below ENTER). See: switching your keyboard from QWERTY to AZERTY

Second possibility: the Num Lock is activated. Press the Num Lock key on the numeric keypad (to the right of the keyboard), sometimes by pressing the Fn key simultaneously (on laptops).

You've activated your numeric keypad!! On the uiop keys you also have the numbers 4567... you need to disable the numeric keypad,

for that you must disable the num lock (accessible directly or in combination with the function key (fn)

normally you have an indicator on the keyboard that tells you whether the function is activated or not (for me it's a padlock with a number inside).

to disable the numeric keypad at Windows startup:

click on "Start", "Run..." then type "regedit" and click on "OK".

you need to modify two values:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard

Then modify the string entry "InitialKeyboardIndicators"

* the value "0" leaves the keyboard unlocked

Then modify the string entry "InitialKeyboardIndicators"

Normally everything will be in order on the next startup.
Then, you can always manually activate or deactivate the numeric keypad using the fn + num lock keys as previously mentioned!

Hi Tirina,

You need to go to:

1 Control Panel
2 Regional Options
3 Regional and Language Options
4 Check if you have French (Belgium)
5 Go to Languages and then Details. Make sure you have French (Belgium) in both boxes.
If French (France) is selected, you can delete it and select French (Belgium).

Be aware that Windows will only save this when you restart the PC.

There you go; try this and it should work.

Hello,
I had the same problem with a laptop keyboard!
Actually, it was the Num Lock key that was activated! If that's the case for you too, normally a small lock with a 1 in the middle is lit up!
To disable it, I just had to press Fn + Num Lock

Thank you to Hoxam for their response, it's been an hour (actually more) that I've been struggling to try to reinstall the drivers... when all it takes is fn + f11!

Hi, I think I have a very simple solution that worked for me for keyboards
that have azerty456, etc.
Start by going to Programs, Accessories, Accessibility, then On-Screen Keyboard, and a window will open. Instead of struggling with a combination of keys, just press the nlk key on the on-screen keyboard and voilà, no more problems, at least for me.

A classmate from Warcraft gave me the fix; you must have accidentally pressed the alt + left shift combination. Just do it again and the problem will be solved, with shift being the key that allows you to make uppercase letters for those who aren't too familiar with it ; )
