Hello, first of all, I want to wish you a happy new year 2010.
I have a mini hi-fi system "Sony MHC RG440S" with a power of 300 watts RMS (600 musical).
This system consists of 2 speakers each with 100 watts RMS and a subwoofer of 100 watts RMS.
I want to change my subwoofer because at half the power (i.e. 15 out of 30 on the volume) it struggles.
Furthermore, I am lucky to have a TANNOY resonance box that currently houses a 30 cm diaphragm.
It's a fairly large and sturdy wooden box, weighing about 20 kg.
The question is as follows: will a 30 cm (or smaller) diaphragm of 200 watts RMS be sufficient to handle the power of the system, or do I need to buy something more powerful?

To listen to music (with a lot of bass) like Black Eyed Peas, David Guetta, or Akon...-
First:
Each subwoofer has its appropriate enclosure volume; putting any subwoofer in any enclosure will reduce its maximum capabilities.
Second: to make a bass box, you need MDF wood with a maximum thickness of 15mm (there's no need for thicker material, it's useless). The box should be glued and screwed, the internal corners should be rounded using half-square battens, and the internal walls should be lined with acoustic foam. The enclosure itself should be placed on either rubber feet or absorbent spikes. The subwoofer should rest on a piece of absorbent foam (thick double-sided tape with foam is also effective) and not directly on the wood.

Third: The amplifier module should be protected inside the enclosure to avoid circuit degradation and false contacts (within a small internal compartment).
As for the type of enclosure, Bass-reflex or sealed, here’s the difference:
In a sealed enclosure, the woofer loses -3dB and limits resonance; the bass does not go into the infrasonic range but is punchy, and the enclosure matches the woofer's size.
In a reflex enclosure, the woofer operates at peak capacity, but the type of vent must be well-calculated to avoid excessive resonance, and the sound is deep; the downside is that the enclosure is larger.
