Apple Mobile Device Driver (Recovery Mode) Solved/Closed

Question

Hello, after a crash during an attempt to install the latest firmware on my 8g iTouch, it is now stuck on the "connect to iTunes" screen and is no longer detected by my Vista.  When I plug it in, Vista searches for the driver and cannot find it. I get a message saying "Windows needs to install the driver software for your Apple Mobile Device (recovery mode)."  The service is running, I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and the other Apple software twice, following the order of the procedure given on their website, and despite this, I still have the same issue.  If you have any leads, I would really appreciate it ^^

Hello! After searching all day and consulting all of Apple's help (I had the same problem after updating to iOS 4.2), I found the solution (under Vista, but I think it's the same under 7) !!!!   (You must be on an administrator profile)  You connect your iPod to the PC (close iTunes if it opens).  In the start menu, right-click on Computer ==> Properties.  In the new window that opens, you select Device Manager at the top left.  In the device manager, you click on View ==> Devices by connection   There you will have in the tree "USB Bus Controller" and just below: "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" with the yellow exclamation point    Right-click on USB Bus Controller (not "Apple Mobile Device") and click "Update Driver"   Click on "Browse my computer for driver software". Click on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". (this is very important, it's the bottom choice, not the first)  Click on the provided disk button ==> Install from disk ===> Browse.  Choose: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.  Double-click on the usbaapl.inf file that appears in this folder   Click ok, the driver installs and your iPod is recognized correctly (you no longer have the yellow exclamation point)     You can launch iTunes, which will recognize your iPod and start the update/restoration as needed! I tried and it still doesn't work. Windows doesn't recognize the iTouch and keeps asking me for the CD for Apple Mobile Device (recovery mode). I'm losing my mind!!!!!

I have another issue. When I plug my iTouch into my computer, it says I need to install two different things with the same name, Apple something. Your trick works for one of them, but I don't know what to do for the second one, please help me.

A foolproof method...  1 - Install 7Zip here http://www.7-zip.org/  2 - Download iTunes here: http://www.apple.com/en/itunes/download/  3 - Right-click on the iTunes installation file, extract with 7 Zip...  4 - In "start," "run," type "services.msc," ensure that the Apple and Bonjour services are not disabled, if so set to automatic...  5 - Reinstall all programs extracted with 7 Zip, finishing with iTunes (Bonjour service, Apple Software Driver, and others...)  6 - Restart the PC... normally... All systems go....

For that, I helped myself with: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538?viewlocale=en_US If I had followed what they told me, my problem would still be there, but well. *You go directly to the section: 3. Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB driver is installed *When they say: Locate the Apple Mobile Device USB driver in this list. If this entry appears without a down arrow or the "!" or "?" symbols, this driver is installed. Move on to the next section titled "Check for third-party mobile phone software". DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM. CONTINUE AS IF THIS PHRASE HAD NOT BEEN SAID. Then follow the few explanations and you're good to go. IF these explanations do not work (because this problem resembles many others, the solutions mentioned on this forum are an example), I wish you good luck and advise you to force destiny (they tell you that it won't work, who cares, just do it; afterwards you can say it doesn't work).

Here’s how I managed to achieve my goals with the same kind of problem and a device in recovery mode:  First, I tried the method recommended by iTunes (going into device manager, updating the driver manually, and selecting the usbaapl.inf file) ONLY! That wasn’t enough to get my iPhone recognized by iTunes, and then, for some reason (whether a flash of genius or not), I found what triggered a response from my computer: in "USB controller," I saw "USB composite device" and I simply updated it via the internet!  Boom, iTunes opened, and restore was proposed right away!
