Invalid menu descriptor

The invalid menu descriptor problem appears when you have multiple programs that can download a resource / multiple associated programs (for example, in the case of torrents, if you installed BitTorrent, then tried µTorrent, then tried BitPump, etc. Each associated program leaves traces and Windows sometimes ends up panicking.)

Bumpy solution:

1) Uninstall the additional programs and keep your favorite
2) Then run CCleaner to remove extra entries from the registry
3) If needed, reinstall the ones you want, making sure not to change the associations.

It is never healthy under Windows to have multiple programs associated with the same resource.

I also have this message but only on certain sites that offer to open links. It mentions PDF.

My problem was due to the fact that I had two different versions of PDF installed that conflicted with each other.
The older one was removed and everything went back to normal.

after reading and trying everything that was explained on several sites, nothing worked!!!
But by fumbling around, I finally succeeded:
I removed µtorrent and avg as antivirus... I don’t know if that made a difference, but anyway, I installed Avast, then I ran Reg Cleaner (clicked on "do for them" in the dropdown menu), I installed Big Torrent, then µtorrent AND IT WORKS. I no longer have the "invalid menu descriptor" problem.
Maybe the fact of installing Big Torrent first and then µtorrent was enough...
For your information, Avast slows down the PC less than avg8.0... at least I think???

However, after installing TuneUp Utilities (one-click maintenance) and the free software "Hitman Pro," the issue has been resolved.

I would just like to remind you that the solution involved removing a second version of Acrobat Reader that was accidentally downloaded and was interfering with the base version.

apparently, this is because you are trying to open the file indirectly, for example with MSN.
You need to open the file you wish to read from its location (find the folder where it is).
