Change the letter of a network drive

Hello,

I want to change the letter of a network drive. Actually, my problem seems to be quite classic; I have two network drives with the letters G and H. The issue occurs when users try to plug in USB drives, as the system simply doesn't recognize them because the letter is the same as my drives.

Rather than changing the letter of the USB drives in disk management every time, I would like to change the letters of my network drives once and for all. However, they obviously do not appear in disk management.

Could someone help me?

Thank you
Sincerely,
Manu

Hello,

I really like the kind of reflection like "If you're a network admin, your question may seem surprising," yes I am a network administrator, I graduated from a well-ranked engineering school and I shouldn't even have to provide this kind of information.

For your information, we are not taught to manage a Microsoft network but only to manage networks at the infrastructure level. Then I changed fields for personal reasons that led me to become a teacher and I love my job. We needed someone, so I help out at the school with the network. (no budget to have a dedicated person).

I have used all the polite formulas, yet some people apparently are not really modest about their knowledge.

To answer your questions now, I don't know how network drives are assigned, I just arrived at this school. Indeed, I suspected that modifying network drive letters could affect the functioning of certain programs.

Meanwhile, I don't have my answer, how do you change the assignment of network drives?

Thank you
Manu
