So let me explain everything briefly,

In a bit, there is 1 bit..., in a kilobit there are 1000 bits, in 1 Megabit, there are 1000 kilobits and in 1 gigabit there are.......... 1000 Megabits!

There you go, I hope you understood! It's really simple.

  No, Ben "it's just" Windows and all those who imagine (due to being misled by Windows among others) that 1 Terabyte = 1024 Gigabytes / 1 Gigabyte = 1024 Megabytes, etc... That's wrong!!
  
  kilo, Mega, Giga, Tera are decimal prefixes, 1 Mega = 1000 kilo / 1 Tera = 1000 Giga, whether it's liters, meters, bytes, etc...
  
  On the other hand, kibi, mebi, gibi, tebi are binary prefixes, and there it's correct, 1 mebi = 1024 kibi, etc...

1GB = 1000MB and not 1mB, which would be 1 millibyte and not 1 megabyte. And for accuracy, 1GB = 1024MB.
