PS3 won't turn on (flashing red)

Question

Hello, I bought a used PS3 not long ago, I tested it at the person's place and when I got home, I played maybe for 30 minutes and then the PS3 turned off and I can't turn it back on!!
The PS3 goes orange then flashing red, is it dead?

Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 3.0.14

For my part, I would lean towards an overheating issue? Is that really the case?
Let the PS3 cool down and restart it.

Also, check the connections of your device (to avoid disaster).

Yes, I let it cool for 2 days because I wasn't there, and yes, I checked all the connections, checked for dust, etc.  I don't know what to do.

My PS3 did the same thing, exactly like yours. It's your internal card that got fried but you can have it repaired.
If you want to buy another one, don't forget to take your hard drive from the old one and buy an external hard drive to put it back on the other PS3 ^^

PS: It's gonna cost you an arm and a leg!!! :DD

Well, momoboost, don't look for it, it's a YLOD, but let it cool down, and if it still doesn't turn on, you're off to buy a motherboard. The YLOD means the motherboard is fried.

pffff too fragile the PS3, it's good but as far as I see, many people have YLOD problems, it's repairable by yourself but if you don't want to try, getting it repaired costs about 50 euros!!!

Hello, for your problem, you need to completely disassemble the PlayStation 3 down to the motherboard.......! With the processor exposed, you need to remove the thermal compound that is on it and replace it.... so it's tough for a novice, but it's doable! They are here ^^ I've had my original PS3 for years and it's been running smoothly. It has buried many 360s. Just so you know, the famous Red Dead Ring is much more widespread than the Ylod.

For the Ylod problem (the diode turning orange when we turn on the PS3)
It is indeed a problem related to the connection between the CPU and the motherboard; no need to know more about the technical side of the issue.
2 Solutions:
- Buy another PS3 ^^
- The heat gun technique (with no guarantee of results)
I'll leave you a link to a little tutorial in 3 parts; you will easily find the 2 other parts, they're by the same author. Be careful, the explanations are in English, but that won't stop you from following the procedure step by step by reproducing what you see in the video.

Are you talking about the unreliable xbox? the three red lights are guaranteed for 3 years by microsoft!
so even if it happens to you (out of the 3 xbox I had, it happened on my very first one) never on my elite and now I have the slim and this bug has been fixed...

My brother brought the ps3 for repairs twice in 3 years...
I think that between the two consoles, it balances out except for the 3-year warranty on one and one on the other...

Anyway, the problem is not there... and you have three solutions:

1/ overheating problem? it's simple, you dismantle it, change the thermal paste on the processor and even the fan with a compatible one (you should find it by searching)...
2/ if you don't feel like dismantling, go to a guy who installs chips near you, they usually repair consoles (like the little video game shops)
3/ there are websites where you can send your broken console and they will repair it...
4/ contact sony for a paid customer service...

Hi, your PlayStation 3 is a victim of YLOD  I know because my PlayStation had this issue too, but fortunately I managed to fix it  Follow the steps I'm giving you and your PS3 will work again ;)  1) Disassemble your PlayStation 3 down to the motherboard.  2) With your heat gun, heat the motherboard for 5 minutes (2:30 for the card)  3) Once it's nice and hot, let it cool down  4) Once cooled, apply thermal paste on the motherboard  5) Reassemble your PS3 and enjoy :)  If you have a problem, let me know and I will help you ;)

Hello,it's clear you got a YLOD (overheating), I advise you not to try to fix it yourself because I did the same thing and it lasted 2 hours, then I have a friend who has a PS3 too but he had another problem with the optical drive and he had it repaired at a shop called INFORMATEAM and he recommended I take mine there, so they repaired it for €90 with a 6-month warranty and I paid an additional €20 for extra warranty. Honestly, I'm really happy, I recommend them and they're nice too, they're located in Plessis Trévise in the 94 area.Good luck to you.
