Well, by copying the files from the CD to a folder on my desktop, I was able to launch the installation without any installutil issues. I hope it won't happen with other games. If you still have a solution, please post it; otherwise, I'll mark it as resolved. :)

Hello, sorry for the delay, I rarely come to this forum, and unfortunately, I absolutely don't remember the solution I searched for a long time and not having received an answer here, I didn't think to post the answer :s. I think it's the antivirus that is blocking the installation program; maybe stopping it during the installation could work, but I don't remember at all, sorry :s.

I have the same issue, namely the same error message when installing FEAR in double pack. I am on Windows 7 64 bits. What should I do?

I installed the RC of framework 4.0, ran CCleaner, still the same error...

When was the fix released? Because since then I've given up... Thanks anyway, it might help those who have the installation issue!

I couldn't install it on 7 either, same error with dll, and the installation only started once I took the file from Eblyed, so thanks to you =)

For those who bought the pack in 2014/2015 like me and are experiencing the same problem.
You notice that the solutions from 2010 are no longer valid: the installer fix can no longer be found anywhere.

For the record, the first time, I encountered no problem during installation.
But I ran into trouble during reinstallation after restoring Windows 7 64 bits to factory settings (Windows seemed slow to load and tweaks had no noticeable effect).

The question was: why did I suddenly have this problem?

The factory reset had eliminated the software I had installed since purchase, one of which must contain that famous installutill dll and its sisters (like install utill fun8...).

So I reinstalled software starting with the visual express which contains a whole bunch of dll libraries.
Without success.

I then started reinstalling old games.

And there was a miracle.

For it to work, you need to install farcry 1.

Once farcry is installed, restart the installation of fear. It will finally install.
But there remains a problem when starting the game: another dll will be missing: d3dx9_27.dll which you can download here:

By simply placing it in the syswow64 folder (computer>OS(c:)>windows>sysWOW64), it will work. (even if it’s a 32-bit dll).

So it's the famous snake that bites its tail... :-((

For Farcry1, I found a way to download it, however, there is another issue where we have to play with Uncab and thus no system installation so no dll files
I did find the installutil dll online but beyond that, no way

And that's not all because I also got Fear2 Project Origin in the Pack, and there is a similar problem but less. You need Steam from Disk 1 to play it lol when it would have been easier to put all the files on the DVD since it’s a physical version but no, you have to download the files and it takes forever not to mention the update... during installation, the update would not go through, it froze at 27% or a message told me that Steam .dll was missing lol, it’s hard to believe they’re good at missing files. This problem actually comes from the antivirus protection that has to be disabled

So everything is fine in the best of worlds... we can't play Fear1 and its addon because I'm fed up with playing the demos, we want to be able to play Fear1 that we bought, damn it :-(( :-((
