Yes, BUT NOT AT THE BEGINNING. First, you start on this machine by launching the installation from the CD. But at some point, you will have to indicate that it is for a network connection. The program will ask you at some point to connect the USB, just to configure the printer to use Wi-Fi.

If you’ve already done a USB installation on both PCs, you can switch to Wi-Fi; just put the CD back in, wait for the installation program, and choose Add a device.

I think you can connect one PC via USB and others via the network, including Wi-Fi. The printer connects to the network via Wi-Fi. It needs to be installed on each machine that will use it. When you install it on one of these machines, you must select the option to connect via the network. At that point, you will still need to connect (when the setup prompts you to do so) via USB in order to register the Wi-Fi network name and security key on the printer. So, to answer your question: yes, even for a Wi-Fi connection, you need to connect via USB at some point (temporarily).
