Hello,

I just bought the latest Samsung UE46B6000VW and there is no headphone jack!!

Is there a way (not too complicated) to connect headphones so I can watch TV without disturbing anyone in the house?
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

After several hours of fruitless research and a number of trips to multimedia stores, I finally found a solution!
For your information, I have a Samsung LED screen (which of course doesn’t have a jack input), and the Freebox Revolution (V6).
To save you unnecessary searches, here are the useful pieces of information I found:
  • 1- An optical jack adapter DOES NOT WORK for audio headphones, don’t be fooled!
  • 2- Optical jack converters (don’t confuse them with adapters) simply do not exist.
  • 3- If you think you’ve found a solution, check in your TV manual that you are indeed using OUTPUTS and not INPUTS. For example, the RCA jacks on my TV are inputs and therefore cannot be used to connect your headphones to an adapter.
  • 4- I tried, but couldn’t get any sound with a SCART - jack adapter. Some have succeeded, but according to the reviews I found online, it doesn’t support HDMI, or it only provides sound and no picture... In short, I don’t recommend it.

WHAT I DID: Just when everything seemed lost, a salesperson suggested using the RCA outputs from the Freebox (not from the TV). A cable that allows one of the Freebox sockets to be converted to RCA jacks is included with the box.
So all you need to do is buy an RCA jack adapter that you plug into the back of your Freebox. Then just mute your TV and adjust the volume with the Freebox remote, otherwise you’ll hear the sound both from your TV and your headphones.
I don’t know if this will work for other types of boxes; to find out, simply check if there are RCA jacks (yellow and white if I’m not mistaken) on the back of the box.
I bought this adapter for €10 at Surcouf, and it works wonderfully!

Otherwise, the other much more expensive solution is to use a home cinema system, which plugs into the optical output of your TV, and you will get a jack output on the speakers...

With that said, I hope I’ve helped you, and I wish you good luck with the rest of your search!
