The .rom file is precisely what allows you to flash your Divx player. Make sure to check your manual, on some models you just burn the file onto a CD, insert it into the player, and then turn it off and on again; upon startup, the player upgrades itself...
Be sure of what you're doing, and I reiterate, read your manual or the explanation on the manufacturer’s website carefully.

Hi, I think you might not have downloaded the right file, because a file with a .rom extension is apparently for flashing the BIOS, so it has nothing to do with what you need. Try downloading a new one. I hope I’ve been of help.
Hi
thanks for trying to answer my question
by any chance do you know what software is needed to decompress divx files into dvd format so that I can read them on a player, because I have a dvd player that plays divx but I'm unable to read them, I still haven't found a solution so I wanted to try decompressing them to see if it would work.
if you have an answer I would appreciate your help thanks see you+

Hi, you might want to try Neo Divx, but be careful, apparently there's an incompatibility with Adobe Premiere products.
I hope I was able to help you.
