Having followed this topic, I am about to buy Steganos Anti Theft. I had my laptop stolen this week. I have my serial number and my Mac address. I understand that I need to install Steganos on the PC to locate... but I obviously don't have it.

I also know that my last hope is to locate it via the Mac address. The police services do not do this kind of thing... I would like to find software that I can install on another PC that is not the one that was lost and thus, by providing my Mac address, could scan the IP addresses that "map" to the Mac address of my lost PC. It seems technically possible on the web.

Does anyone have an idea?

my girlfriend has just been robbed. She has lost a lot. Among the stolen items is her computer (mini Compaq). We are going to try to locate the computer to find the thief and her belongings.

Wcherif, know that you need to file a complaint with the police for theft first and foremost.

a MAC address cannot be changed.
it is integrated into the ROM chip of the network card in the PC.
so for a desktop PC, you can at least change it by using another network card installed on a PCI port, but for a laptop, I seriously doubt it since the cards are soldered to the motherboard unless you use a PCMCIA card.
