DLNA with Sony Bravia KDL-37V5500

Hello,

I just bought a Sony Bravia KDL37V5500 TV.
I have a network hard drive (DLNA) "Western Digital My Book World 1TB Ethernet."

The TV recognizes the network hard drive fine,
but when I play an MP3 file from the network drive via the TV, after 19 seconds the TV skips to the next song with a message "playback not available"... It seems to read a bit more depending on the sampling rate of the MP3 file.

On the other hand, I have no problem playing the same MP3 files from the PC.

I tried to look for new firmware for the TV but to no avail... The firmware of the network hard drive is up to date.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?

      I have a BRAVIA KDL46W5500 connected to an iMac via an Orange box (the iMac on WiFi, the BRAVIA on Ethernet)
      The ps3mediaserver version MACOS (http://ps3mediaserver.org/files/pms-macosx-beta-r356.dmg) works perfectly, recognizing the television in a few seconds, nice interface, intuitive settings (the targeting of iTunes and iPhoto libraries is directly provided by a checkbox).
      A gem is the word.

      Hello everyone,
      PS3 media center works fine for me. I had a bit of trouble making the connection. I forced the use of my Wi-Fi card, then my KDL37V5500 TV was properly recognized.
      However...
      I don’t know about you, but for me, the video image is quite poor. There’s a menu where I selected the “best quality,” right below something like “are you crazy.”

      Anyway, it looks bad. There are a lot of squares on the screen. It’s definitely much worse than what my Xbox (first generation) provides, which plays DivX from my network using XBMC.

      Could it be my network connection that is insufficient? Or is it the system that is not working properly?

      In the category of MacGyver, I’m keeping my old second-hand Xbox.

      Is your XBOX wired or on wifi N (300Mbits/s)?
      If that's the case, it's normal. The wifi g network standard (your PC) allows a maximum of 54Mbits/s (often 1Mo/s due to the instability of wifi g, maximum 4Mo/s), while wired networks allow for 100Mbits/s, which means up to 11Mo/s (at my place). PMS detects your bandwidth and adjusts the transcoding quality.
      The only way to increase your quality is to run a cable through the middle of the living room...

      DLNA videos should be avoided with wifi...

      The Xbox is wired. It is the one that decodes. It's not streaming.
      I tested it with another PC that uses Powerline at 200 Mb/s
      It's better, but still not great.

      If it's a network quality issue, then there's no solution for me. I'm not going to make a hole in the ceiling to run a cable.

      XBMC on Xbox is actually not so bad. The Xbox is just insufficient for HD.

      In any case, for anyone wondering, PS3 Media Server works on XP and Windows Seven.

    Hello,

    I have a recent Sony Bravia television (40HX700), a PC running Windows XP SP3, and an Orange Livebox.

    When starting PS3 Media Server, it recognizes my television and I can browse my hard drive. I can play music, photos, and videos in MKV format.

    My problem is that I can't play videos with the .AVI extension (mainly XVID).

    I have tried the two solutions recommended by the PS3 Media Server developer:
    - A configuration with only VLC
    - A configuration with the CCCP codec pack + Avisynth

    I have also tried using the K-Lite pack.

    The problem is specifically as follows:
    - for a given AVI file, I can see a folder #--TRANSCODE--#
    - if I go inside, I can see my AVI file.
    - and if I click on this AVI file, the message "there are no items to display" appears on my television.

    Whereas for an MKV file, I click on it and the movie starts.

    Has anyone ever encountered this problem? Do you have any new suggestions for me?

      Hello,

      I had exactly the same issues as you. I have a Sony Bravia 40HX800 TV.
      In order to view videos other than MKV, your model of Sony Bravia TV needs to be recognized by PS3 Media Server.
      You need to create a .conf file for the HX series.
      For my part, I modified the first lines of the Bravia EX .conf file as follows:

      RendererName=Sony Bravia HX Series
      RendererIcon=bravia.png
      UserAgentSearch=notusedhere
      UserAgentAdditionalHeader=X-AV-Client-Info
      UserAgentAdditionalHeaderSearch=BRAVIA KDL-40HX800

      I found this information from the following link:

      I then added this new file to the renderers directory.
      My TV is then recognized and I can play all types of files.

      I will try to be more precise.
      The .conf files are located in the directory c:\program files\PS3 media server\renderers.
      Open the file Bravia EX.conf with Notepad.
      Modify the 3rd and 7th lines:

      RendererName=Sony Bravia HX Series instead of
      RendererName=Sony Bravia EX Series

      UserAgentAdditionalHeaderSearch=BRAVIA KDL-40HX800 instead of UserAgentAdditionalHeaderSearch=(BRAVIA KDL.+EX5)|(BRAVIA KDL.+EX7)|(BRAVIA KDL.+NX7)

      Save this new file as Bravia HX in the renderers directory.
      Attention!! Don't forget to change the extension from .txt to .conf.

      Normally, once this file is added, when you start PS3 Media Server, your Sony 40HX800 TV will be detected (an image will appear) and you will no longer have any problems playing all types of files on your TV.

      If you have another model that is detected but unknown to PS3 Media Server, read the debug.log file located in the PS3 Media Server directory and you will find what you need to note for line 7 instead of BRAVIA KDL-40HX800....

      A BIG thank you because it worked.... then the system crashed:
      question: can crashing the system affect the router and thus the ADSL reception? because I had no internet for 2 days.
      Moreover, yesterday, PS3 media server was running, the network wasn't working and the television asked me to check the firewall (ps3 msv is authorized) and to update the devices. what does that mean?
      Finally, today PS3 media server won't start anymore....
      What do you think?

    Thanks to reading this post I was able to "easily" connect my TV (KDL40V5500E) to my computer, which gave me the idea to gather all the information into this mini tutorial (suggestions and improvements are always welcome...)

    Connect the Bravia TV to the box using an RJ45 cable.
    The box then acts as a router and the local network is created.
    Install the PMS software (answering yes to all questions (or "next"))
    Start the software, PMS should detect the Bravia TV in about 15 seconds displaying its picture (If necessary: Allow the software in your firewall alert)

    On the television:
    Navigate using the remote control through the video, music, and photo icons (using the Bravia XMB menu) and select: "PS3 Media Server [computer name]"
    Note: By default, the entire directory structure of the computer is displayed (*see PMS help) so: Choose the directories where the video, music, photo media is located
    To see all videos without special manipulation or conversion:
    On the TV, go to Video -> PS3 Media Server -> /.../ video folder name to view -> Transcode -> Movie name -> Avisynth/MEncoder

    PMS Help
    The "transcoding settings" tab is the most important; if your connection is via Wifi, you need to adjust the transcoding. To do this, go lower in "video quality settings" and choose "medium quality for HD Wifi transcoding." I specify that this setting is only for playing MKV files (1080p and 720p); for other files, the quality will be the original quality of the media. You will see that the quality of MKV is very good with this setting, but you can try to increase it and find the right balance according to your connection (wifi or wired) and the power of your PC; if you go too high in quality, MKV videos will stutter.
    The "Navigation/Folder Sharing" tab allows you to select the folders displayed on the television (practical for facilitating navigation and avoiding exposing the entire computer…)
    Remember to save your options by clicking on "save" at the top.

I followed the procedure to the letter, but regarding my TV w5500, concerning video playback, I have the specified path in your post, except that after "transcode", film name, I do not have access to "Avisynth/Encoder!!! On my PC (XP-Pentium4-3GHz), in PMS -> in "Settings - Transcodings" it is indicated: Avisynth/Encoder > this engine is not loaded!!! What should I do to load this engine?
      Also in general config > network settings > I set "Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx...etc. Is it the right choice?
      PS: for images it's OK, I haven't tried the music.

    Concerning APPLICAST and LIVEBOX SAGEM, while waiting for a hypothetical new version, it seems that there is a solution by "unblocking" the filtering that is natively performed by the box (probably blocking streaming on the ethernet port).

    The solution (a bit technical) is on page 3. It should also solve the playback of sites under "WEB".

    Otherwise, PS3 Media Server works correctly with Sony Bravia TVs for MP3s, JPEGs, and most AVI (or MKV) files; however, the network must be at least 100M (or 1000M for HD MKV).

    Hello!

    - I have 85mbit powerline adapters (Orange liveplug) (PC is 6-7 meters away from the TV)
    - My PC is now 4-5 years old, it's starting to lag. :)

    So I tested with "Good quality for HD wifi transcoding": same result (I find the folder, then TRANSCODE, then the .avi file, then "No results to display")

    I also just installed the K-Lite codec pack: still no avisynth/ffmpeg. (even after restarting)

    PS: It's okay for the photos, I must have done a wrong manipulation before.

    I just need to figure out how to sort the playlist, because it seems that the TV displays the albums in the wrong order - and the tracks in alphabetical order by song and not by track number... I will look for it...

    In the jungle of computer and Hi-Fi evolution, the best way to avoid compatibility issues is to dedicate a computer to file sharing within a household. A good old motherboard, a good old Pentium, and you're all set... An OS like Ubuntu offers a good compromise. In French and reliable.... No unexpected reboots, no Windows defrags.... Once the installation is complete, configure a VNC client, remove the screen and keyboard for consumption, and there you go...

    PS: PS3 Media Server 1.11.356 is available for Linux in tar.gz.

    Plokiju, are you sharing from an optical drive? Try copying your files to a folder on your disk. Then, it seems that you need to install a codec pack like CCCP that supports MKV/H264.
    Now, it gets a bit complicated: The Bravia only reads MPEG 2, so you need to configure transcoding, which will allow you to convert a video stream MP4, Xvid, Divx, H264, and audio to a format readable by our television. I don't remember the exact terms, but I promise, as soon as I get home, I'll try to create my first tutorial.
    I hope I was clear in my explanations. In the meantime, have a good return.... My schedule is quite full; I need to test the camping pool, count the fish in the Mediterranean, and the number of grains of sand that pass between my toes.....         As a owner of the 40w5500, I've read your comments and installed PS3 media server. The TV recognizes my PC, no problem, the structure is great, MP3s, photos. For video, it gets complicated, mpg(1) is recognized, but for Divx (codec like Xvid, the playback is unavailable....too bad. However, the video files are displayed in the structure. I took a look at the manual and on page 30 it explicitly states that the TV reads AVCHD, HDV, and MPEG2-PS. A conversion with "super" of an .avi file to AVCHD (MP4) and I thought it would work. Not at all, the file is correctly recognized as MP4 AVC but it won't play. So, if anyone has another idea to make our TV read videos in a format other than mpg(I), I'm waiting for your comments.

      I tested Mediatomb on Linux and several other DLNA servers on Win, but only PMS remains compatible with a Bravia. Your funky stuff issue is transcoding. Have you checked PMS to see its transcoding rules? Did you install the codecs during the PMS installation? Do you have a firewall? Please describe your network and PC configuration. I can read MKV/H264 without any issues or extra configuration. For bilougap, did you connect your Bravia to your box with an RJ45 (non-crossed)?

        Actually, you're probably going to think I'm clueless, but I didn't understand what the "transcod" file was that appeared in the hierarchy... Well, okay, I deserve some punishment, but in any case, it works; the .avi files transcoded by Mencoder are playing. Thank you Sat 86 and thank you PS3MS.
        Just one more question while you're here, I saw in my main hierarchy a web file and BUJU, and after browsing through it, I found files like Youtube... but the video files seem unreadable. Can we really surf the web and listen to streaming radios...?
        How does it work??

    No problem... We are all newcomers, we help each other, that's all. In the PMS options, you should be able to choose to access the file directly instead of going through "transcode". Otherwise, I think we can listen to streaming radios but I'm not sure.. There is a "media library" option to explore... Maybe a link with WMP. Good luck. Share your findings with the forum...

      Bilougap,

      you need to create a local network. To do this, connect your Bravia to your box using a non-crossed RJ45 cable (How many ports do you have on your box?). Your box then acts as a router and the local network is thus created. You then need to install PMS by answering yes to all the questions (or "next"). Start the software, PMS should detect your Bravia after about 15 seconds, displaying its picture. Then choose the directories where your media (videos, music, photos) are located. Your media is "shared." Navigate using your remote on the video, music, and photo icons on your Bravia. You should see "PS3 Media Server [your computer name]." Enjoy.

      The problem does not come from your PC and its single Ethernet port. Observe the diagram in 9.1.5 on this page:

      Your box is actually a modem/router/network hub (all-in-one). It theoretically has several RJ45 ports (e.g., 2 ports on Livebox, 1 yellow and 1 red). You have internet, so you have connected your PC to one of the ports on your box. In the same way, you connect your Bravia television (Ethernet port on the left side of the TV) with a straight RJ45 cable (https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00089962.html). What is your box? Freebox? Livebox? Dartybox? Neufbox?.... If you only have one port on your box, it means you will need to invest in a network hub or switch (https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00089962.html).

      Once all this stuff is plugged in, you will unintentionally create a local network.... And you will be able to install the PMS software.

    What do you mean by "it does not connect"? To the network or do you mean that you have to choose the HDMI input 1, 2, 3, or 4 on your TV when you turn on the decoder?

      Your decoder is not compatible with Anynet (HDMI-CEC). It's a feature that allows communication with the TV via the HDMI cable. When I turn on my DVD player, it commands the TV to turn on and switch to the corresponding HDMI input.
      ISP decoders are very lagging behind, in addition to being driven towards cost-cutting.

      Hello again everyone, I see that DLNA is a topic that fascinates...
      For my part, my 40w5500 connected to a Livebox recognizes my old Toshiba P-10 laptop running XP (with a WiFi key) and this thanks to PS3 Media Server (I tried with WMP11, it doesn't work or I didn't understand anything). The file structure (my partitions on the computer... C:, D:...) of my PC appears on the screen at the level of the Xcross, all that's left is to read the files. One remark though, the Divx videos transferred via DLNA are of lower quality than those read by a Blu-ray player, mainly due to the better digital processing done by the player. I'm nitpicking...
      I haven't really understood how the media library works?? Sat, if you can explain that to me... And still no idea how to stream radio through the TV?? Well, it's not a PC either... can we not surf with?... too bad.
      Question: A friend who has the same TV and a Freebox connects directly (without us asking anything) to his PC (running Vista!!) via WMP11. The problem seems to be in the WMP11 settings, a file structure appears but not the entire PC's, only that of the library (from WMP11) and there, apart from a few MP3s that appear, no videos. Does anyone have Vista? Any tips for setting it up?
      You might tell me, well, have him install PS3 MS. Yes, exactly, we tried, PS3 MS starts and gives us a nice red cross (so no server detected basically..) Is there a conflict with WMP11? Any advice??

      Hello, I have a Vista and haven't had any problems. My computer is connected to the box via Ethernet and I have a second Ethernet cable that goes directly from my TV to the box. I also have a red cross when I connect the PS3 MS but apparently, it's okay. When I check my connections on the TV, my computer appears there and I can see almost all the photo, video, and music files that are on it. The widgets also work very well with these connections.

      It's funny, it works for me too but the PS3 shows an orange triangle and an exclamation point, the "attention" panel... however, the widgets don't work, and their usefulness doesn't seem very convincing anyway.. What box do you have?
      For my friend on Vista, during the first installation, didn't WMP11 set itself as default for you? Should we disable it??
      Any ideas for the media library?

      I have a Neuf box from SFR. As for WMP11, it hasn't shown up. I don't use the media library and haven't even tried it. For the widgets, I have the calculator, Le Monde, the world clock, the RSS feeds, but nothing essential, I would say!

    Yes, I quickly looked into this software, but I haven't tested it. It's proprietary software and I don't have a VAIO, so... But this software supports Upnp and Dlna under XP.
    I'm not surprised that Sony responded to you the next day, I repeat, they are really very good.
    Otherwise, yes, Sony excels in visuals. I don't have a home theater; I just have an Alesis amplifier (studio gear, pure amp, without the ridiculous sound management), Cabasse speakers, and a Focal subwoofer (well, you need something that keeps up!!!), and I admit that when watching a movie like Ice Age 3 or Madagascar 3, I really enjoy it (and my ears are full!!!)...
    Otherwise, if I were you, my livebox would quickly break down... That's what happened to mine anyway....

      Last question regarding the videos that are converted by PS3 MS and sent to the TV: Why don't the black bars appear? Because the movie ends up being fullscreen with the associated flaws..

    I looked into this issue the other day. I have a lead... Mencoder.... You're going to tell me: Is this your lead?!?!
    .... Yeah, that's it. Mencoder is a free encoder available in Linux repositories, I've dealt with it before... But it's quite tough.
    For it to do what we want, you have to know how to talk to it... Let me explain: You need to specify arguments in "Expert settings: specific codec parameters".... Just the title already...
    I haven't looked further, the only thing I know is that we want to maintain the aspect ratio of the video (ratio = height/width ratio). I looked into it a bit the other night but I didn't dig deep. Check here and if you find the syntax (I tried 2 or 3 arguments without success) let me know:

    I'm still afraid that it might be on Sony's side that they adjust the ratio, because apparently, the default settings of Mencoder do not resize videos... I tinkered with the PMS files but found nothing... We're starting to climb in difficulty level...

      Yes, I suspected we needed to look at the encoders unless, as you said, Sony automatically resizes the ratio, and that won't be easy... But there must be a workaround. As a networking rookie, I'm far from being an expert in programming such a program. I took a look at the two sites you sent me... Have you tried the syntax "expand" or "dsize"? I'd be willing to try, but I don't even know where to enter these terms. How can I contact an expert in the field? You who knew PS3 MS before us, don't you know any skilled Linux users? Maybe on a forum?

    I'll call Sony tomorrow. I gave them the PMS code and they know their stuff inside out, so they'll know... Well, yes, I'm a bit lazy.... No way I'm looking for the Mencoder solution if it's Bravia that's resizing...

      Hello everyone,
      I think I have partially solved our black bars problem. If Mencoder is difficult to configure, ffdshow video decoder is much easier.... Before even launching the PS3 MS application, if you have installed the ffdshow VD video codec through the Klite codec pack, proceed as follows:
      start menu -> Klite codec pack -> configuration -> ffdshow video decoder -> check the box "Resize & aspect"; click on "Specify horizontal and vertical size" and choose "Manual Aspect Ratio" of type "Cinemascope HD disc" then "Apply"
      Launch PS3 MS, and in the file tree displayed on the TV, open the movie file [Avisynth/Mencoder], transcoding takes longer than with Mencoder especially with 1 GB of RAM, but in the end, the movie should appear with the black bars. The quality is improved even though we notice that there is still a small bit missing from each side (??). Also, use the Zoom function on the remote to get the correct ratio.
      So, I believe that the quality of a Divx with this method is not too bad even though the quality is still inferior to the same Divx played by a Blu-Ray player. It's normal since the PS3 converts to MPG2-PS which is a format worse than native Divx.

        Hello FS,
        I had another insight...
        In Menu>Settings>Network Settings>Network:
        On IP address settings, press OK then choose DHCP (manual DNS)
        In the DNS fields, set the primary to 80.10.246.2
        and secondary to 80.10.246.129
        Then normally, your apps should work.

        Explanation:
        Your livebox does not act as a DNS server, meaning it does not provide the route to go online to your television.

        I hope this will resolve your problem. Let us know how it goes.

        PS: I just had it confirmed by SONY customer service. They also confirmed that the television does not resize DLNA video streams...

        Well, I tried your trick, unfortunately, still nothing. I'll wait until this evening to see what happens but I have little hope. Do I need to enter another access path? Where do you get the DNS numbers from, what’s on your TV??
        As for resizing, what do you think of the trick I posted earlier with ffdshow VD?? Have you tried it?? It might not work with all Divx.

    No, it's not from my place, it's Orange who gives them... I have a somewhat complicated network setup where I don't need to enter the DNS....
    I had forgotten... Have you completely turned off your TV with the button on the right side of the screen? Once restarted, wait 2 or 3 minutes and check again.
    What did you have in the DNS? If it doesn't work, try using 192.168.1.1 in both fields. Also, restart by turning it off completely.
    In the Gateway field, there should be the IP address of your livebox, which is generally 192.168.1.1, is that it?
    Otherwise, I am on Ubuntu 9.10, so I don't have ffdshow... No need, and I don't think it exists.. (superb improvement of Ubuntu, with a startup time of 15 seconds to reach the desktop, I hope it will make Windows 7 users at 249 Euros pale, knowing that the next Ubuntu 10, scheduled for April 2010, will have a startup time of under 10 seconds).

    When you watch a video, go to Settings>screen command>, you adjust your format 4/3 or 16/9, but you will have to change it each time your video changes resolution...
