What is NNM (with HP OpenView)?

Hi,

I know that an HP OpenView platform is used for monitoring network equipment, but apparently, it uses a monitoring module called NNM (Network Node Manager), and I'm not really sure who does what in the end.

It would be really nice if you could shed some light on this for me, because I can find some documentation on HP OpenView online (not a lot), but nothing on NNM.

Thanks!

Network Node Manager 250/Entry can manage up to 250 network nodes. It is possible to increase the number of nodes if you purchase the additional bank for 250 nodes. Network Node Manager 250/Entry is capable of serving as a data collection station for Network Node Manager Enterprise.

Key Features
Product Description HP OpenView Network Node Manager - (version 6.0) - full set
Category Network management tool
Sub-category Networks - Remote monitoring
Version 6.0
License type Full set
Number of license(s) 250 clients
License pricing Standard
Language(s) English
Required OS Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

The problem is when there is one,
solving it is another.

Actually, it doesn’t explain much to me... It’s okay, I eventually found roughly what I wanted. Thanks anyway!

And it’s time to sleep at this hour! As for me, I still have some time ahead of me, it’s 9:50 PM… ;)

Hello,

given that you have seen the previous responses and noted a certain number of points, I would simply add that NNM is a network monitoring software, whose main objectives are:
1. to discover the network topology (map representation according to the type of equipment (router/switch/...))
2. to monitor the availability of discovered equipment
3. to listen for alarms that network devices may send

In any case, this relies on the SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), not so simple when consulting the proprietary information from equipment manufacturers (Cisco, Alcatel, ...) and is related to the SNMP configuration (and its version) of the monitored devices.

There you go, knowing that the tool, even if it can provide some dashboards, was not designed for that.

This software is part of the primarily network component of monitoring, even if a number of things can be done at the system level.

Best regards.

Hello;

I am a newcomer in supervision, and I would like to know if you could give me some leads to investigate in order to better understand the environment, especially the implementation of an HPOV solution and its use.
Thank you in advance.

It's very simple. None of the proposed answers directly address your question.
HP Openview is a monitoring tool that includes an NNM 7.x module (for the latest version) for network monitoring. But other modules are available like Operation,...
Basically, OpenView is the generic name given to a group of different software developed by HP.

Hello,
I am working on the OVNNM project. Please give me advice on what to do to develop it and in which language it should be developed.
Thank you.
