Unzip error on Mac

If you put the file back on the Mac and have it read the information, what does it say?

What size is it originally?

What medium did you use? USB flash drive, external hard drive.

20 megabytes for a hundred files, photos, and Word docs?? It sounds suspicious :-/

Delete your drive and put your files back (hoping you haven't deleted them) without compressing. If your drive's capacity is too small, do it in several batches.

.DS Store files are invisible Mac files; often visible but useless on PC.

It's surprising that your compressed folder is actually the required size while appearing to be empty. Where was it zipped? I mean on a Mac? A PC? With standard software? There's a very effective software, 7z; if I remember correctly, its early versions required that this app be installed on the target disk to unpack the files, although it’s a variant of zip. I don’t know what it is like now.

Otherwise, our friend Epiettes is right... start the process over from the beginning.

I’m thinking of it as I write, but have you repaired your Mac's permissions recently? If any rights have been changed without your knowledge, some apps may behave strangely.

All of this seems a bit complicated... especially since to protect this file, you attempted (?) to create an image (of what?) but you specify that it has nothing to do with this file ????

Is the .zip in the image? How did you create it?..

Indeed (is it because of the weekend?), I'm having trouble understanding:
- the file is not in the image. OK?
- you modified the password through Accounts in System Preferences. Is that right?

I would have naively imagined that Accounts in System Preferences was meant to change the passwords of user accounts, not those of archives, images, etc.

Now we need to know if your actions, which I don't see the connection to since you clearly state that the image and the archive are independent, could have interfered and for what reasons.

Word, Open Office?

As far as I'm concerned, if you haven't kept your uncompressed files, it's dead for recovery. Still check on the PC if your files are not tucked away somewhere.
