Configure a USB port as a serial port

Hello,

I want to have a serial port on my laptop, so I bought a USB/serial (DB9) cable to connect to any USB port on the PC.
The problem is that when I connect this cable to a USB port on my PC (3 available), Windows detects it and informs me that the "USB device" is not installed correctly and may not work, which unfortunately is the case!
Additionally, I need to configure this serial port as COM1 or COM2 so that I can use it for a crossed serial link via another null modem type cable.

Thank you in advance and happy holidays!

Hi,

for the USB cable, it just needs to be recognized before changing it to a serial port.
Did you get any software or drivers with this cable?

Once recognized, you need to change to serial in Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager / then take the hardware connected to the cable and change the values (com1, 2, 3...) it will automatically assign if the COM port is in use :)

There you go.
See you!

I have a similar problem except that in my case I cannot change the values of the COM, in this case putting it on COM 1.
