What is "Tone"

Hello,
I have Logitech speakers connected to my MacBook. On these speakers, there are '' Volume '' and '' Tone ''. Could you explain to me what "Tone" is and how to adjust it?

Configuration: Mac OS X Firefox 2.0.0.21

    The tone setting is the treble setting.

    You do it however it suits you, but not too much, though.
