Startup issue on Compaq Presario

Hello,

I have a serious issue with my PC startup, here are the details:

When I turn on the computer, the three fans are running at full speed and do not slow down (or at least one of the three) and the screen remains black, so the operating system does not launch and I have no specific error messages.
I have to turn off the computer. When I turn it on a second time, everything starts normally.
In short, the startup works normally once out of two times.
With this phenomenon, I can no longer perform a system restoration for example because when the computer restarts I have the same problem: it gets stuck. So this is quite hindering and I think it might get worse.

Is this problem related to the power supply, the fans, or the graphics card? I need help to identify the cause and a possible solution to this problem.

Thank you for your help!
Configuration: Microsoft Windows XP - Home Edition Version 2002 - Service Pack 2 Compaq Presario AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+ 2.21 GHz, 960 MB of RAM

The best thing would be to open your computer and check that all the components are properly connected.
With 3 fans, I wouldn't be surprised if a component starts to come loose. It must vibrate quite a bit in your machine.

Rebooter, do you mean to flash the BIOS? In that case, I would advise you to wait for other responses to your question. I wouldn't recommend it unless it's a last resort.
It may be coming from elsewhere. If I were you, I would still try to back up everything when it starts, and format, reinstall, and see what happens.

First of all, thank you for responding so quickly...

Yes, I also thought it might be a component that wasn't in place, but I checked the connections and everything is fine; there was quite a bit of dust, so I cleaned up (!).
When the PC starts normally, the fans work very well and the PC doesn't vibrate at all, but when it freezes at startup (which happens 1 time out of 2), it indeed vibrates a lot and doesn't stop.
It might be a bug in the power supply case; I'll check that tomorrow.

I checked the power supply and tested it with another cable, but I still have the same problem.

I tried to start the PC after removing the RAM sticks; the fans start normally each time, but the screen remains black and the PC makes several beeping sounds.

One thing I didn't mention is that this phenomenon appeared about a month ago, and at first, the PC displayed a blue screen at startup indicating that there were errors with the BIOS (not good), then a few days later, there was no more message, just the problem that's been present since.

While searching on the forum, I saw that one solution would be to reboot the BIOS, but I'm hesitant due to the risk.

My Compaq Presario CQ61 computer's screen stays black when I turn it on, I don't know what's causing it, so I am asking for help.

    Hello,

I have a similar problem with starting a Compaq Presario PC
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+ every other time.

The problem started one day when the video card on the PCI Express bus seemed to fail (black screen on startup) so I bought a new card with no results. I then tried an old video card on PCI and now the screen is accessible. However, since then when I turn on the computer, the three fans run at full speed and do not slow down (or at least one of the three) and the screen remains black, so the operating system does not boot and I have no specific error messages.
I have to turn off the computer. When I turn it back on a second time, everything starts normally.
In short, the startup works normally every other time.

    Does this inspire you?

      Hello,

same similarity on my Compaq Presario (I can't remember the config anymore)

But at each startup, the fans run at full speed, and I have no image, as if the motherboard gets stuck during initialization.

I unplugged everything, hard drive, drive, peripheral card, RAM, the problem persists; it's true that I haven't tried starting without the video card.
I also note that before this happened, I regularly found the PC stuck in sleep mode with the fans running at full speed.
But now I'm stuck at every startup, since I'm not the only one in this case, if someone finds the source.

Tonight I'm going home with a video card that I'm sure works to try.

Thanks in advance for any useful info.

Hello, my father's computer is a Compaq Presario CQ71. After two months of use, it often takes two to three tries on average to start it up normally, and most of the time we just get a black screen. However, the fans aren't particularly going crazy.

Additionally, the computer no longer shuts down normally; it gets stuck on "logging off," which requires us to use the "on/off" button every time. Recently, it has also happened that after starting up fairly normally, there are major bugs: unable to access the "login" menu or the "task manager," internet doesn’t always work, and to top it off, we have to manually enable Avast's resident protection!!

Not being very skilled with computers, I would like to know if there's a simple fix to solve the problem, or if I should just send it in for repair (at Leclerc :/)

    Hello,

My PC has been in this state for 6 months without getting worse. I just performed a system restore without any particular issues (except for restarting several times), but it didn't resolve or worsen the problem. I don't know the cause; I'm living with it. I know that at startup, it takes me twice as long, and the reboots no longer work (it gets stuck, and I have to force shutdown and then restart).
    See you!

    Install 2 x 1GB RAM
    Or a single 1GB

The fan goes crazy at startup with:
1GB + 500MB (Not comfortable in HP Tech documentation)
