Leave Mac on all night

Hello,

I often tend to leave my PC on all day and all night, even for a month without turning it off.

I plan to switch to a MAC (purely due to my ongoing conflict with my beloved VISTA).
But are MACs sufficiently robust to stay on for several days without being turned off?

Thank you!
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0

Yes, Macs can be left on without any issues.
The question is: on what support?
If you have a laptop, don't forget that it has a 2.5" HDD, so it's not that robust...
Additionally, leaving a laptop on... = battery dead (no more autonomy if it's on 24/7 (to see))
It's like Linux; it endures ;)
Why not buy a Mac Pro (tower)?

To answer you, I only turn off my Mac when I do updates that require me to restart. That is to say, once every 2-3 weeks. So it is either always on, or in sleep mode (2 seconds to return to functional state). And this has been the case for almost 2 years. It has no issues.

Windows has detected that you have moved your mouse.
Please reboot this machine for changes to take effect. Restart now?

    Hello,

If you allow me, Lucian, I would add that Mac OS is "preset" to run maintenance scripts overnight (in principle, the Mac should not be in sleep mode). If one absolutely wants to turn it off, then it is necessary to use software like OnyX to perform maintenance at other times.

    Best regards.

I leave the Mac on, but it goes to sleep. Does this interfere with the nighttime cleaning process, or should I disable sleep mode? I'm 70 years old, and I don't understand much about computers; I'm an old ignoramus...
      Thank you for your response.

      Hello, plumeau,

Well, 70 years old, that's nothing...

You can adjust the sleep settings in Apple Menu > System Preferences > Energy Saver.

      That said:
      - Macs from a few years ago performed their self-maintenance at night and did not need to be in sleep mode,
      - it seems to me that recent ones do their little cleaning after a certain number of hours of runtime, that is, it's their actual activity that will trigger the process even with downtime.

      Best regards.
