USB assignment letter

Hello,

I just bought a new laptop (running on Vista) and I have the following problem:

When I connect a hard drive or a USB flash drive to a USB port, the PC recognizes it (no problem) but does not assign any drive letter to it, making it impossible for me to open it. I tried to assign letters via DOS and the disk manager, but the letter stays for a second and almost instantly disappears...

Does anyone have a solution to fix this and allow me to explore my data??

Thanks in advance,

Benoit
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

You should try changing the drive letter of your devices using Partition Magic software or others.

Hello,

My main drive is partitioned into two (C and D drives) and the DVD drive is E. I have no problem accessing these drives and viewing their data. My problem arises when I plug something into my USB ports... the computer recognizes them but does not assign a letter to them, and when I try to assign a letter, it is removed after 1 second (the antivirus just has time to tell me that a drive has been connected and asks if I want to scan it).

I don’t understand why you are talking about partitions? Can you explain further?

Thank you.
