Problem with EBP software: Btrieve Pervasive

Hello,

I run a small business where the main PC uses accounting software (v8.2r1b) and commercial management software Pro V12.2. (on a network with two workstations: server and 1 client)

The accounting software was designed to be used with Btrieve and commercial management with Pervasive.... naturally, the two are not compatible. However, it seems that the accounting software can still use Btrieve.

I thus install Pervasive SQL Workgroup on both the client and server workstations, I install the commercial management software and then the accounting software; for now, restoring the data poses no problems for either.

Data sharing for commercial management works fine on the client and server. In short, everything is perfect except that, at different times during the day, commercial management crashes completely on the server. I have to restart the machine.

The error would be: kernel btrieve not found.

Great...except that I haven't installed Btrieve! It seems to me that the accounting software must still install some Btrieve-specific files.

What would your suggestion be?

I should add that the PC is new and replaces another one that did the same thing... so we can rule out a hardware issue.

Thank you for your help.
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 3.0.6

Hello, I just read your message on the forum.

The crash seems to only occur with the commercial management. Do you experience the same crash in accounting? When you mention different times of the day, how many times on average per day?

The Btrieve 6.15 version installs automatically with the accounting installation.

Your commercial management should be using Pervasive 8.6. I recommend you to perform just a reinstallation of Pervasive 8.6, you can find it on your EBP commercial management CD-ROM in the "help" menu of the autorun.

Hello,

thank you for your response, but the solution was not the EBP software or its Pervasive SQL engine... it was the McAfee antivirus! I installed Antivir and have had no problems since the date of my first message.

I reinstalled the OS + EBP software three times and the result was always the same... which could rule out a bad installation and left me with the antivirus as the only culprit.

If this can help someone and prevent them from pulling their hair out, because it was far from obvious.
