Need the 'System password'... Solved

Question

Hello,  I am trying to fix a computer (reformat it). But as soon as I turn on the PC, it asks me for a system password. Not only does no one know this password, but when I try to type one (password), nothing appears; I type on the keyboard but it doesn’t write anything, it just beeps. Also, I can't access the BIOS. If someone could help me...

Hello,  Desktop or Laptop? If desktop, try to do a Clear CMOS by moving a jumper designated for this purpose on the motherboard. -- When the most probable possibilities do not solve the problems, let us turn to the possibilities we didn't think of. Sherlock Holmes

Hi, okay, well thanks, unfortunately I don't have the PC in question in my possession, I should be able to try a clear CMOS a little later this morning, so I'll give you updates as soon as possible, and thanks again, it seems very suitable for my little problem, which appeared to me as a mountain of crap  knowing where to find the RIGHT help solves all the problems ;)

Okay, so I cleared the CMOS by removing the small battery (for 20 minutes), but without the expected result, so I still have the message; phoenix ROM BIOS plus version 1.10 1.0.2 copyright 1985-1988 phoenix tech.ltd copyright 1990-2006 dell inc. all rights reserved  Dell system dell DM061 series bios version 1.0.2  performing automatic IDE configuration  Type the system password and press enter;  and still unable to type anything...... what can I do????

hi yes it's a wired keyboard, and it's recognized because when I try to type the system password, it doesn't show anything but there's a sound beep, I can't access the setup (f2) and f12 or f8... and yes I've tried with xp, it runs but that's all...

Sorry, as far as I'm concerned... no more ideas. It seems after browsing the forums about this, that one of the solutions might be to call Dell if you're the buyer of this mic... but then again, technically, your story about the keyboard not responding is quite disabling. Thank you... listen, as far as I'm concerned... I have news that could shed some light for you... my PC is the same as the other one I want to reformat... so, having the same Dell PC (mine a bit modified... (same motherboard, same tower, same hard drive except I have 1 more, not the same processor nor the same amount of RAM, but anyway)) I then, being out of solutions, took my hard drive from my (working with XP) PC and installed it in his tower, I then had no changes, the same password message that appeared, unable to type on the screen and the same beep sound telling me that the keyboard is recognized and functional... turning to something else, I then took his hard drive and installed it in my tower as a secondary one, to my great surprise, when I opened MY PC with his hard drive as the second one (as my second hard drive was already connected (my back-up)) as I said... to my great surprise... the same damned system password message and the same keyboard problem... result... my PC is now also inaccessible... THE real hassle... S.O.S ++++

It seems there is a specific "jumper" for the password. It should be labeled like this: "Password Jumper". It would be located on a set of 3 "pins" (?). Look at what is written around, you should find the words: "Password" or "Password Reset". Remove the jumper where it says that, and put it on one of the other 2 pins in the same group (a group of 3) Or you can just remove it. That should delete the password.  -- Patience is the mother of safety!

Ok, it looks good. I found a jumper, but it's white and longer and slimmer than the usual black ones... It's positioned on 2 pins named; clrpsnd and there are 2 free pins right next to it named clrcmos... What to do... disconnect everything, change the jumper, put it on clrcmos, and then after a few seconds (minutes) put it back in its initial position, touch the case, reconnect and restart ???

It hasn't changed anything on either of the 2 PCs...still the same system password message and can't type anything, but there's still the sound beeping, and the enter key works, like before, but it says incorrect password and keeps asking me for the system password over and over again.

I changed the jumper's position, then turned the PC back on... it wouldn't turn on... I didn't unplug it again, but I put the jumper back to its original position, then turned it off and on, and here I am in the BIOS resetting everything.... SOLVED, thank you.

Ok, resolved for the first one... I'm installing XP... :D... After that, I'll do mine, trying not to format, as I wasn't really ready to erase all its content... ouch... At worst, could I take the newly formatted HDD to save my own HDD? Connect mine as a 'slave'... In the end, everything is good... mission accomplished thanks to the little knight, but reinstall to the initial position while keeping it absolutely plugged in :D... a very happy one.
