Hello,
When I open a new Word 2003 document, the cursor defaults to the header. I have to go to View > Header > Close and it's very annoying. In Tools > Options > Default Folders, I go to the directory where model.doc is located. I modified my template accordingly, but with no effect. And it is indeed my template that is taken into account when opening a new document, as I can see all the other changes made.
Thank you for your help.

Hello Cockpit,
You think you're in the header of the page.
Actually, the cursor is at the very top because the doc opens in Page mode and the "Space between pages" option is disabled.
Go to Tools / Options / Display / in page mode options and check this option.
I just tested it, but let me know if that's not it.

Hi,
I have the same problem with Word 2007, I have a very simple technique.
Create a second page, then double click between the two pages and everything should fall into place.
See you later!

Hello,
there is no need to create a 2nd page. With Word 2007, you just need to double-click between the horizontal ruler and the top edge of the page.
The cursor is not in the header. Word simply hides the entire blank part of the pages to bring the texts closer together and allow for smoother (re)reading.

- in Tools / Options / tab Display
- in the 3rd section: page mode and web mode options
----check "space between pages".
or position the cursor on the page border which turns into a double arrow suggesting to display the spaces.
