VLC History Solved

Question

Hello,  Does anyone know if the VLC media player has a history feature like Windows Media Player (recently opened files), and if so, how to access it? Thanks a lot!

To delete the history of recently watched videos that appears when you right-click on the program in the taskbar, you need to:
right-click on the taskbar>properties>start menu and uncheck the two boxes in the "privacy" menu.

To clear the history in VLC (2.0.1), open the file menu and then "Open Recent Stream." You will see the installed file and the option to clear everything!

Hello, for everyone who has this problem, don't get angry, actually the issue doesn't come from VLC but from Windows which keeps your recent files.
To remove it, do the following:

- right-click on the taskbar in an empty space
- then "properties"
- go to the shortcut lists tab
- then uncheck the two boxes :)

It's strange that nobody mentions this anywhere, so I'm just passing by here :)

I know it’s old but it might be useful, I haven't seen anything on the subject ;)

Closed VLC manipulation

For Windows users, the file to modify is in the following directory: Documents and Settings => your user => Application Data => vlc then edit the file vlc-qt-interface.ini with admin rights

For those on Linux, well in your .config => vlc then edit vlc-qt-interface.conf

In both cases, look for the tags [RecentsMRL] and [OpenDialog] and clean up the data that concerns you ;)

Be careful to respect the syntax of the language. Save and launch VLC.

On Windows 10, to delete and/or disable recent files in the taskbar in general,

(and also to make the recent files list of VLC disappear when right-clicking on the VLC application in the taskbar)

You need to go to:
Start menu > Settings > Personalization > Start > uncheck "Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar."
