Hello,

I just bought the Epson Stylus SX600 FW printer.

The installation goes smoothly, but I can't establish a Wi-Fi connection with my laptop.

I might not be doing things correctly; has anyone installed it and encountered problems?

Thank you for your responses.
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.0.5

For those who have XP like me, I did the following. Sorry for the lengthy message, but it's useful and it works perfectly directly with my PC without going through an access point or anything else. Just turn off your antivirus and firewall for the installation, and you can turn them back on afterwards; you never know ;)

On the printer with the control panel:

Go to settings and then network settings.

Scroll down and choose wireless network; press OK then select manual wireless.

Activate the network by selecting yes for everything except. When prompted for the memory card, select no.

Select enter SSID name and input a name (personally, I used EPSON).

And choose the AD HOC mode.

Select WEP security (128-bit is sufficient). Enter a network key in ASCII; you can enter a phrase or a sequence of words that must fit exactly in the space available on the control screen (13 characters). Note it down on paper.

Choose channel 11 or another, it doesn't matter. For the TCP/IP address, it is originally on auto, but in case it isn't, go to general network settings and check auto (DHCP).

That's it for the operations on the printer.

On your PC, adjust your wireless network card in network connections. Right-click on your wireless network card and on properties at the bottom. Select the TCP/IP protocol and properties; click on obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP) if it’s not already the case. Confirm.

Then activate your network card, display the available wireless networks, and select the one for the printer (for me EPSON); click on connect and enter your network key that you wrote down on paper. Click then on confirm. If all goes well, the network address will display; wait a few minutes until it changes to Connected.

The operations on the network card are finished; we now move on to the EPSON installation program.

Follow all the instructions until the connections tab where it asks you which mode to choose; select on the network. It will ask you to connect the provided Ethernet cable, do it.

Do NOT select first setting or first printer addition!!!
But select Add a new computer on the network/printer.

Click on wireless and next.
Select the printer that appears (EPSON SX600FW) which should have a yellow circle with a black line (if everything was done correctly before). Then click on next and let it do its thing.

When everything is marked completed, a green circle should appear in front of the printer name. It will ask you to print a test page; if it doesn't, click on next and it will ask you to do so. Click yes. The page will print out. You can unplug the Ethernet cable.

Click finish.

And there you go, your printer is connected directly to your PC wirelessly without needing a router or anything else.

Hello,

After two calls to EPSON and two days of struggle, I found the solution.

You need to go into your firewall (for me, it was ZONE ALARM) and MANUALLY allow access for your printer (EPSON STATUS MONITOR 3 for me, since it's an Epson). During the installation, a lot of authorization requests appeared, to which I always allowed access. But apparently, my firewall forgot to ask me for the most important thing for my printer... so it blocked it by itself... That's why I thought the problem couldn't be from my firewall! And yet...

You'll see, it will work like magic ;-). The solution was actually quite simple...

Good luck.

Thank you for what you said, but I have Vista and I don't really understand what you're saying. When I go to my firewall, I looked at the things the firewall calls rules and I can't find this rule for my printer. It's like the others, it's a SYLUS SX600FW and it's really annoying!!!

Hello, I have an Epson multifunction printer SX515W and I wanted to install it on Windows 7. Since I couldn't install it using the provided CD-ROM, I proceeded as follows: in the start menu, go to (Devices and Printers) and there click on (Add a Printer), then (Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer). Then you need to choose the printer to install (for me, Epson) and the model (for me SX 510W); SX510W or SX515W is the same. Then confirm the installation and it worked for me. P.S. remove the cable connecting the computer and the printer before the installation.

Hello,

I also own an SX600FW printer, and I also have a lot of trouble setting up the wifi; there are too many wifi settings on the printer, and I find the user manual not very clear.
