The name facebook appears in gray

Hello,
on Facebook, the name of a person who is not on my friends list appears in gray, whereas normally, even if they are not my friend, their name should appear in blue. The problem is that I can't find this person even though they have an active Facebook account (because from my brother's Facebook, who has them in his friends, I was able to see their profile and posts...) This means that even when I type their name in the friend search, they remain unfound, even though they actually exist! Also, I can't see their profile picture. Can someone explain where this malfunction comes from? And if possible, a solution?
