Hello,

Starting with Samplitude Music Studio 15

I get this error message when I try to record:

The audio input device "Microsoft Sound Mapper" cannot record this format!

Reason: A device number outside the range of your system has been used.

and I can't record ...

If anyone has a solution, thank you in advance.
Configuration: Windows Vista amd phenom quad core ati radeon hd3650 4 gb of ram Firefox 3.0.5 sound card realtek

I'm answering myself; the solution was to go into the control panel/sounds and enable the driver for recording.

(I'm silly sometimes, but only sometimes!)

Hi strictmaximum, I confirm your parentheses! ...
More seriously, follow the guide: open Samplitude, start a project, right-click on playback (located in the taskbar at the center). A window opens “audio system options / Global” then choose “system/devices” and then “audio configuration, device manager”. Three options are available to you and this is where it happens. It's up to you to choose by checking “ASIO” or “MME” or “MRL” depending on your hardware configuration. There you go. (Also valid for Samplitude 18).
      Have fun!
Bonus: It could always come in handy...

Hi, what do you mean by driver?

Because I have Samplitude 7 and it says when I want to record,
"" A device number outside the range of your system has been used. "

Thanks for helping me, I've been struggling for a month and I can't find a solution.

That's exactly the problem I had...
The "driver" is the program that allows you to operate a device, in this case a sound card. But if you don't even know what a driver is, I advise you to ask a pro to solve your problem.
You need to go to the control panel and "enable the driver in the sound properties" or the device manager (if I remember correctly, because back then I was on Vista and with 7 Pro it works directly).

The thing is that I tried it on Vista and now I've tried it on Windows 7 and it doesn't work, and on my other PC which is on XP it doesn't work either
        I don't understand anything
        in XP:
in recording devices: I only have "microphone" and I can't put anything else

        in Windows 7:
I have in recording devices: 2 times microphone (with the message "high definition audio device not connected" in gray)

and line in (high definition audio device not connected)

I know that before I checked stereo in the audio options of XP and it worked but now I no longer have that option

If someone can help me please, all I want is to be able to record sounds from Windows Media Player or any other audio or video player on my computer

And yes, I know what a driver is and it tells me that it is up to date

I'm fed up with struggling; I can't find an answer.

I also don't think I have a sound card! Isn't it integrated into the motherboard?

I was just about to ask you the question...
Either you have a sound card but the driver is not installed, I suggest you go to ma-config.com
and install the ActiveX control they will offer you to install, run a scan of your system, and install all the updated drivers. (It will detect all your devices and find the sites to download the drivers...)
If your computer is relatively new, it’s possible that the sound card is integrated into the motherboard!
Or you may not have a sound card at all, and in that case... well, you need to go buy one with the specifications of your motherboard (its brand, its serial number, its name)
In the device manager, do you have yellow question marks next to the sound device?

if ma-config.com doesn't work, you can go here: https://www.touslesdrivers.com/index.php?v_page=29

I'm going to update my graphics card
I have integrated high definition sound (my graphics card is a GeForce 8600 GTS)
      my motherboard is a P5KC

I'm doing some tests and I'll keep you posted
(the thing is I've never had a sound card and it has always worked) I'm unlucky

Well, it doesn't change anything, it's still the same crap, there's nothing to do, it might be the crappy version of Samplitude
        or the crappy Windows.
