But… how do you do it when there is NO !! "Num Lock" function key (and of course no little green LED on the Fn 6 key ??????)

It is enough to use the key in the bottom left corner of Mac keyboards. Sorry, that's the fn key. However, do not use it for voting, except to accelerate disasters.

I struggled long enough with the AZERTY keyboard.

ALL THE TIME THE MANIPULATIONS:
Shift + number, Shift + dot, looking for the letters é è à on the numeric keys at the top.

Whoever invented the AZERTY keyboard must have been drinking that day.

A few years ago, on my old laptop, after experimenting with the Canadian French keyboard, I tried and adopted the SWISS FRENCH keyboards.

Like on US keyboards, the numbers are always there.

No need for Shift, Caps Lock - they're always there.

The letters "è é à" are to the right of the letters P and L.

The period is always there - no matter if Caps Lock is on or not.

I only use SHIFT for the characters °+"*ç%&/()=?' and for uppercase letters.

SO I ORDERED MY MAC BOOK PRO with the SWISS FRENCH keyboard.

You have the option:
either go to the website www.apple.lu (yes in Luxembourg they sell either AZERTY or QWERTZ (Swiss),
or call Apple France to get the Swiss keyboard with the French invoice instead of the Luxembourg one.

I WILL NEVER USE AN AZERTY KEYBOARD AGAIN. Struggle, struggle.

On Mac, by default, the "caps lock" allows for the use of uppercase accented characters.

This behavior is changeable by selecting "French - Numeric" instead of "French" as the input method.

From the Apple menu > System Preferences > Language and Text, Input Method tab, check "French - Numeric" in the list.

If you have a "mixed" usage (= sometimes needing uppercase accents, sometimes needing numbers), you can check both input methods. A small menu will then appear in the menu bar (the one at the very top of the screen) and you will be able to switch on the fly as you wish.

With Mac OS 10.7 (Lion), a long press on a vowel allows you to display its accented variations. Thus, if you are in "French - Numeric" and in "caps lock," you will have the numbers, and a long press on E will produce an É. There is no longer really a need for the French keyboard after that.

I have the same numpad issue with my MacBook Pro, but your solution doesn't work for me because I don't have the "international" icon in the "system preferences" menu.
How can I make it appear?

Indeed, I had to uncheck the "French" box and activate the "French numeric" one because having both activated at the same time didn't work.

In fact, on Macs, you simply need to press the fn key at the bottom left of the keyboard to activate the pad.

you should have a little light on the F6 key and it says "num lock."
