Hello,

What is the purpose of the small yellow push button next to the large flat battery???
It says CMOS right next to this small button, which looks like a reset to me, but I don't know much about it.
Thank you in advance for your answers.

Thank you, Nono, for your quick response.
My problem is that my PC hasn't booted up properly at startup for quite a while now; I have to hit F1 for Windows to start.
So if I press that little button, my BIOS should reset to default and fix the problem???
Are there any specific things I should pay attention to? Can you explain the procedure to me? I'm more than a novice.

re,

you need to press F1... do you have any specific message??

is it a PC built by you?

if you press the small button, there's a chance it will fix the problem, no major risk

When I turn on the PC, I hear a beep and the "COMPAQ" image appears along with the following display.

512-chassis fan not detected
1801-Microcode patch Error
Missing or invalid processor microcode patch. Please contact Compaq computer corporation for a new ROM BIOS to support the new processor stepping.
Initializing intel (R) Boot Agent version 4.1.08
PXE 2.1 Build 083 (WFM2.0) RPL V2.74

F1 Boot…………………………………………..Compaq EVO D510 CMT
………………………………………< F10= setup> <F12 = network service Boots

So I press F1 and the PC boots and everything works very well.
The PC was assembled by an acquaintance NOT by me, I am a novice in this matter.

In fact, by pressing this little button, it's like I'm removing the battery so that the BIOS returns to the default settings???
How long should I press this button???

You can hold it down for 10 seconds.

Then, if you can go into the BIOS, try disabling the chassis fan notification.

Your message seems to indicate that you changed your processor, and that your BIOS is not up to date in relation to it...

NO no, the processor has been the same since the beginning (November 2004)
I'm not knowledgeable enough to dig into the BIOS; if I go around in there, it's the best way to completely mess things up without any chance of recovery.
The motherboard is a DMI Compaq D510 CMT (via Everest)
