Well... the topic is old but... I had one earphone that worked and another that didn't. So I examined the wire of the earphone that didn't work and saw the copper wires sticking out. So, with a sharp knife (MWAHAHAHA), I stripped the wire (where the wires were visible) and I soldered it. And... TADA! it worked like new. Well, almost (the wire stayed stripped XD).
