Device name already in use Solved

Question

Hello everyone,

I have a small problem with my company's network.

One of the PCs cannot connect to the server, I tried to ping the server (server2003) but no response.

When I try to access the network drive (shown in the workstation), the following message appears:

"Microsoft Windows Network: Local device name already in use.
This connection has not been restored."

Do you have any ideas... or even several ^^'

P.S: everything was working very well before a power outage.

Configuration: Windows XP Pro Server 2003

I found a solution.  I removed the network drive to reinstall it. Everything is working again.  There you go.

I have the same problem except that I have the problem on all clients on the network. Can you imagine going to each workstation to delete the drives and recreate them? Moreover, I can no longer create my drives with the server name (e.g., \\svr2\commun); I have to create them with the IP (e.g., \\192.168.0.1\commun).
Same when I enter the path in "run", I get a message saying that I cannot access this resource. Why does it work with the IP but not with the name? Please respond quickly, it's urgent, thank you.

Hello,

In my case, this error occurred when accessing certain files or directories, always the same ones.

The problem was with my Linux server, which had a full root partition; Samba probably couldn't write its logs when accessing those files.
