Mac dead?? Input/output error / I/O error

Hello,

Yesterday, someone lent me their MacBook Pro to fix it.. It fell (at least that's what they told me)
When I boot it, by pressing SHIFT Recovery HD, I see Macintosh HD (10.0) etc..

When I launch it, horror! The Mac gets stuck on the loading screen (halfway)

When I boot it with logs (CMD+V) I see: disk1:I/O error

I decide to boot into Recovery HD, I start the repair and then it stops telling me to back up as many files as possible, error 8..

So I didn't take that as a warning, I opened Terminal, accessed the hard drive, and started copying all the USERS/ files to a USB stick... The photos etc.. But some photos wouldn’t copy (Input/output error) but the others worked..

I've tried everything! Knowing that I only have a PC and no Mac :(

Also, when I click on info in Disk Utility, I see that DISK1 (the one that had the I/O error) was the 'Mac OS Boot' or something like that..

My two questions:

1) Is it coming from the hard drive or the Mac OS Boot partition on disk1?
2) Once I’ve finished copying all the files (well, half of them ^^) can I format the hard drive and reinstall mac (PS: I have a fiber internet connection)

    You must have put a 7200 in, originally it’s a 5400, you can feel the difference overall.

    okay well seen if you have the same issue so it's indeed the cable that is faulty, if no more errors it was the HDD

      The computer is booting into Recovery HD (Internet). The hard drive is running at full speed unlike the other one.

      I formatted the hard drive, I checked and repaired the disk and BAMM no errors,

      So it must come from the HDD, I'm going to start the installation of OS X.

      Hey there!

      I force shut it down and restarted it, I connected an Ethernet cable, and it starts the Recovery HD... 30 minutes before the download is finished!

      When you use Disk Utility and click on SOS, do you get an error?
      Initially, you had an input/output error, so if it's freezing, I think it's for a reason.

      Hi,

      I just opened my Mac with screwdrivers, I took out the hard drive, wiped the connectors, etc., and I connected it to my laptop.. It took 5 minutes before it was detected in the disk manager (I have Windows 10)

      I deleted all the partitions (EFI, etc.) and I tapped a bit on the hard drive and I reconnected the hard drive to my PC and there it showed up in 1 second!

      I just put it back on the Mac, and now I'm going to launch Disk Utility.

      On SOS no errors,

      I just created a partition and clicked on Check Disk = ERROR (the disk needs to be repaired)

      I click on repair and error!

      I managed to recover half of the files (photos, etc.), I reformatted the disk and restarted the PC.. Icon of a folder with a '?'

      I know.. It can't find the boot disk.. So I did CMD+R and it asked me to log in, etc.. it downloaded the image from Apple's website and I accessed Recovery HD and started the installation of OS X Lion; it detected my hard drive and my partition (Cool, right?) But currently, the installer is stuck near the end on 'About 1 hour and 38 minutes left' for the past 30 minutes :/

    Hi, you have a read/write issue (input/output), this could be due to the hard drive or the cable connecting it to the motherboard. What machine do you have?
