Hello,
I would say a mix between wig-maker and makeup artist:
Wig-maker – hairpiece specialist
The hairpieces (wigs, mustaches, beards, sideburns, eyebrows, false skulls…), mainly used for historical reenactment films (period costume films), are enhancements of makeup. However, it sometimes happens that an actor uses a wig because they do not have the right length or color of hair.
Makeup artist
A technical means (to give a satisfactory appearance of the skin on screen) as much as an artistic one (to create a role from a face), makeup must last throughout a day of filming (though the makeup artist intervenes occasionally for touch-ups), withstand water (for rainy scenes), be non-allergic, and above all, not be visible! It must adapt to different criteria (the period in which the film takes place, the social class of the character…) because makeup is applied differently today than in the 60s.
Makeup can go as far as latex masks (like the one worn by Jean Marais in Jean Cocteau's film) which are more related to special effects.
