Hello,
I just acquired a Spykee and I'm having an issue with activating the remote connection.
After carefully following the installation procedure for the robot successfully, I find myself stuck at the final step, which is taking control of the robot in remote mode from any internet access.
The adhoc local mode works perfectly, the connection mode to the Wifi access point via my Freebox router also works very well. But when I check the box "Allow remote connection" and then click OK, the following message appears: "Error: Invalid password."
Of course, I have changed the default admin password, I have saved it and then verified the robot online as indicated in the installation procedure, and I am sure of my Wifi functioning well (I can perfectly control Spykee via my Free router).
I have sent an email to Meccano's customer service but I have not received any response yet.
Has anyone encountered this problem and especially found a solution to resolve it???
Thank you in advance for your help.
Kali.

RESOLVED
For everyone's information.
The problem came from the fact that I had included special characters in my identifiers for the online registration of the Spykee... It was enough to modify them for the problem to be resolved. Of course, when registering these access details on spykeeworld.com, no information was provided in this regard!!
ADVICE OF THE DAY: Do not use any special characters.

SPYKEEWORLD.COM has closed, no more remote connections, unfortunately, Meccano has been acquired.

I would like to know where we can buy spare parts.
Hello, I have the same problem as you (at first) but I can't log in from outside my home. Robot unavailable. If anyone has an answer for me.
Another thing, it seems that the battery glitches once every 3 times barely when Spykee is out of its base, the message Low battery appears...

Hello,
I just bought a Spykee, I built it but I can't access the controls. I have Wi-Fi and I have checked my password as well as my login. When I go into local mode, I enter my login and password and it says authentication failed.

Hi,
Are you trying to log in with your online registration username/password by any chance??
If so, your problem is very simple, those are not the correct credentials!!
The default username/password are indicated on page 15 of your manual under the section "If this is your first use"
Once you are logged in, you will need to change these credentials to unlock remote access.
WARNING: do not use the same password for your admin profile as the one you registered on spykeeworld.com when setting up the robot. Otherwise, you will run into issues...
Also, don't forget to check your robot online (no robot, no remote access) as indicated on pages 17-18 of your manual. However, at that point, you should enter your online registered credentials.
Let me know if that's okay...

Hi everyone
I'm debating whether to buy this Spykee because it seems like some people are struggling to get it to work remotely.
I have three questions:
- For remote control, do you need to install software on each computer you want to access? Or is it simply through a web address with a LOGIN and PASSWORD?
- What about its autonomy, how does it perform?
- If we place the charging dock with the robot in charging mode facing a door that we want to monitor during the day, can it see what’s happening? Even without piloting it, can it act just like a webcam?

Hi Fay3000,
So to answer your questions:
- for remote control, do you need to install software on each computer you want to access? Or simply via a web address with LOGIN and PASSWORD?
Yes, you do need to install the console on each remote computer to take control of Spykee. However, we hope that Meccano will develop an online interface for remote access, but for now, there's nothing on the horizon in that regard...
- how is the autonomy then?
Regarding autonomy, it's quite decent: 3-4 hours (I've tested it).
However, there's a bug in the console regarding the charge indicator that goes haywire after a very short time, indicating a low battery. Don't trust it and just ignore these messages until Meccano releases an update that stabilizes the gauge (they're working on it, it should arrive soon).
- if we place the charging base with the robot in charge mode facing a door that we want to monitor during the day, can it see what's happening? Even without piloting it, just like a webcam.
Unfortunately, the answer is no. When the robot is on its base, it is completely inactive: it's impossible to get any image while charging. However, via the console, you can take it out of its base remotely, tour your house, and easily put it back on its base. Its total charging time is 3 hours and 30 minutes. With a 4-hour autonomy (and even 4 hours while making it run, I imagine that if you leave it stationary, it should last much longer...) you can imagine activating it remotely by just making it come out of its base, leaving it stationary in front of your door for a while, and for example, during lunchtime, giving it a few hours of charge (a lunch break, you know ;o) and putting it back in guard position for the second part of the day.
I was hesitant about this point at first, but ultimately, I find it isn't that inconvenient... It's up to you to decide.
I hope I have answered your questions. I just want to add one thing: Spykee is obviously a machine that should be judged from a technical and practical point of view, but it's also a super toy for big kids!! Personally, I use it as much for fun as for its surveillance functions. It may not seem like much, but when it's fun, it's definitely better.
Finally, the issues mentioned in this forum regarding remote access have boiled down each time to roughly the same thing. I believe that by following the installation manual seriously and with the few answers provided here, you can get started calmly.
That's it, I'm here if you need anything else.

Hello, if you leave your robot in front of the door all day, no problem. I tried it and there's no need to recharge the robot. What is most reassuring are the lights and the use of the tracks. If you want to use it for surveillance, you place it in a spot where people pass by your home, and as soon as someone enters Spykee's field of vision, the robot sends you an email with a photo of the person. From my office, I move Spykee to check if the trash has been taken out.
To give an opinion on Spykee:
It's a superb little machine!
It takes a bit of time to assemble, even for those who played with Meccano as kids (especially because the assembly instructions aren't always very clear). Once it's done, we're left in admiration of the robot's impressive appearance. However, we will regret the absence of a true "spine," which slightly undermines the torso's stability. But it's nothing serious.
After that, you need to download the console and the installation manual from the spykeeworld.com website to dive into the serious stuff.
Count on a good two hours to install the console, connect to Spykee, get familiar with the control, and then connect Spykee directly to your Wi-Fi access point. As I mentioned in my previous message, I personally encountered a problem with the remote connection that originated more from the spykeeworld.com site than from the robot's configuration itself.
Regarding the robot's performance:
Aside from its good looks, it has undeniable assets.
It is very maneuverable. It is ideally controlled with the direction arrows on your keyboard (don't try using the mouse, you might get surprised ;o) It is a bit noisy, but it crosses doorsteps and other small obstacles without any issues thanks to its tracks.
Its camera is of quite good quality (except in low light). However, we regret the lack of motorization in the head.
It allows for real-time surveillance as well as taking photos and videos. It even has a motion detector that, in surveillance mode, alerts you by sending a photo via email.
However, be careful; many functions are conditional.
For example, when the robot is on its base, it is completely inactive, meaning it cannot monitor your home continuously. This severely limits the usefulness of the motion detector since the batteries do not have enough autonomy to keep it on all day. Likewise, the console must be active on your PC to send emails. In short, Meccano still has some progress to make to improve all this.
The webcam torch, on the other hand, is not up to par at all. It barely lights up ten centimeters away and does not provide decent visibility in the dark.
Similarly, the small LEDs that illuminate the optical fibers are a bit dim. In this case, it's just for decoration, so we can't make a big deal out of it...
It also has a built-in microphone and speakers that allow you to communicate through the robot, both from one room to another in the house and from one end of the world to the other (VOIP). It is, however, highly recommended to use a microphone/headset because the echo effect can be quite significant without it.
It also allows you to listen to music through it (MP3 player and only MP3). There is nothing to criticize about the sound quality, which is more than acceptable.
Now a single question arises:
Will Meccano meet our expectations??
We can hope for infinite modularity for Spykee if Meccano gives it the attention it deserves. But are they capable?? Given the enormous delays in launching the robot (initially announced for December 7, 2007, then postponed to February 2008 and again announced for September 2008, only to finally be marketed in mid-October 2008), we can question Meccano's true capabilities.
Moreover, from my experience, I can affirm that their customer service is absolutely not up to par, as I have received no response from them to date!! When selling a product at this price, they must provide a customer service worthy of the name!
The good news is that the software part is based on open-source, which gives hope for significant innovation if willing developers around the world take on the challenge.
We also hope for an iPhone-compatible version of the console and a possibility for remote control that would not require the installation of the console on the remote computer.
In short, there is still a lot of work to fully exploit Spykee’s potential, especially since the competition is fierce... The Rovio, an equivalent robot from the manufacturer of Robosapien WowWee, is quite promising...
This is a matter to follow!

If possible, I would like to know how you configured your remote connection because with mine I am unable to use expert mode for connecting outside of the house. Thank you in advance for your support.
Hello Oogy,
First of all, as I mentioned in a previous post, you should not use special characters in your access on spykeeworld during registration (accents, symbols, etc.) but only numbers and letters.
First silly question: Did you check "Allow remote connection" in the Wifi tab of your console?
Second silly question: Did you validate your information by clicking the "Check" button on your console under the "My Spykee" tab?
Then, if that's already done, you need to know where you're trying to connect from: From your office? A cyber café? A PC where you don't have administrator rights?
It is possible that you are behind a firewall that restricts this type of remote access...
If that's not the case, it might be your Wi-Fi access point that is causing a problem (don't ask me which one, it's impossible to guess like that). However, there is a specific procedure in the manual titled "Additional Configuration: Port Forwarding" that allows you to assign a fixed IP to your Spykee and should facilitate remote connection. You might want to look into that (p34 of the manual)
Personally, I didn't need it; I just had to correct the issue with special characters in my online access and check the "Allow remote connection" box. After that, I installed the console on the remote computer and just selected "Remote Connection" in the Connection window that appears when starting the console, then you enter the name you gave to your Spykee (the famous information saved online) and only then do you enter your admin credentials (or those of another profile if you've created others). Do not confuse these two types of access.
Regarding your charging issues, I've also started to notice some autonomy problems. For now, it's not as dramatic as what you describe, but I fear things may worsen since mine doesn't even show its charge on the console's energy gauge anymore.
At the moment I'm not sure about anything, but I suspect the rechargeable batteries. I haven't opened the robot yet to see what's inside, but from what I've gathered, it seems to be a battery with 2 AA cells (like a rechargeable wiimote battery). This is somewhat weak, and it doesn't bode well for the longevity we can expect. Plus, it often doesn't charge well if the battery is not empty (we know the problem all too well with standard rechargeable batteries).
Your problem may have been exacerbated if you used the robot right away without providing its initial charge recommended in the manual.
Here's what I'm going to try regarding my situation:
I'm going to try to completely discharge the batteries by preventing the robot from returning to its base until it shuts down by itself. Then I will put it on charge for a while (overnight) and then turn it off completely using the switch located under the robot and turn it back on afterward.
I think it would also be good to turn it off this way regularly (using the button... not necessarily letting it drain each time of course) just to avoid leaving it constantly charging on its base.
Well, for now, I don't have anything better to suggest. I would tell you to contact Meccano's customer service, but since they don't respond, that probably wouldn't help much...
Otherwise, try seeing with the store where you bought it (if it's recent) pretending that the robot isn't working to get an exchange. After all, stores usually do this for pretty much anything else... it's worth a shot! I’ll give you updates as soon as I’ve done my little tests.
I hope I could help you.

Hello Kali, thank you for this very detailed response. Port opening is okay, fixed IP address is okay, direct robot connection to Freebox is okay, no special characters in the code is okay. However, there is a problem in the robot console on my computer when I enter the robot name saved on spykeeworld.com and the password saved on the same site and when I click on authenticate remote connection and port forwarding, a message appears saying incorrect code. I am desperate to be unable to connect remotely. I tried changing my code in the robot registration online but without success, it is not possible to change the information. If anyone has an idea, I am open to suggestions. See you soon.
Hi Oogy,
As Cécile mentioned, there is indeed a mistake not to be made, which is to confuse the different identifiers you created.
At the end of the console installation, you need to register your Spykee online via the website spykeeworld.com
At this point, you give a name to your robot; for the example, we will call it "Mecca." You enter the robot's MAC number and choose a password (containing only numbers and letters); again for the example, let's say the associated password will be "galère";o) plus some additional info like your email...
Once this operation is completed, you receive a confirmation email containing all this info and a link to your space.
Then you launch your console and you must replace the default admin password to access remote control. To do this, go to the "User Accounts" tab, click on the admin profile, then click on edit. There you change the default password and replace it with one of your choice (especially without special characters even if it says otherwise!! I had put @ and even though they say it's fine, that's what messed everything up) let's say "rigolade."
Don't forget to enter in the "My Spykee" tab the info registered online, meaning following our example, you put in the robot name field "Mecca" and in the password field "galère", click on verify, and that's it.
If you have any doubts about your online identifiers, you need to return to your space to modify them; here is the address http://www.spykeeworld.com/FR/reg_login.php or simply click on the link contained in your confirmation email. Log in with "Mecca" and "galère" and make the necessary changes. You should normally receive a new confirmation email with your new identifiers.
Just change this info in "My Spykee" to verify again and try to allow the remote connection once more. If it works, to take remote control of your Spykee, launch your console, choose "Remote Connection," and enter your robot's name "Mecca." You validate and you get your usual login window where you can enter your admin identifiers with your new password "rigolade."
If it doesn't work, well... I don't see what might be wrong :o(
At worst, try contacting Meccano's customer service at contact@spykeeworld.com, personally they eventually replied to me... I wish you good luck.

Good evening Kali and good evening to all Spykee owners
Following your advice and after rereading your first message regarding your remote connection problem, I have great news for me. It works thanks to your advice. My problem was that I hadn’t entered the same password for my Spykee registration and that of my console, hence the same message as you: "incorrect password when clicking on the allow remote connection with port routing."
I had a problem changing my password on the Spykee site, and a message told me that the robot name was already in use. You have to persist if you have the same problem on the site (it works)
Another piece of info: A gentleman from Maccano’s customer service called me on my mobile following an email sent from the Spykee site asking them for help: Super friendly and professional, plus it’s worth noting that a Spykee hotline will be established in the coming days (a team outside of Mecanno specialized in our robot's issues). Kudos to Mecanno and kudos to the gentleman from customer service.
Another piece of info Kali regarding the robot's batteries.
I asked the customer service gentleman what Spykee has under the hood. (I don’t remember if it’s 6 or 8 AA 1.5V batteries). He told me he noticed a small bug in the battery gauge on the console and that if we ever want to change the batteries, it's exactly the same model as the NYKO cars. I think the Spykee network is going to grow and that we will have a nice community. I remain at the service of new users if there are any problems with starting up the robot at my humble level.
Happy piloting to all.
Oogy.

Oogy.
Hello,
SMTP is the email transfer protocol, specifically for those you send (hence the term "outgoing")
Here, you need to indicate the SMTP used to send the photos taken by Spykee to the email address of your choice. In summary, the question is: which internet service provider should you use?
For example, if you're with Free, it will be smtp.free.fr
The correct syntax should be smtp.xxx.xxx according to your internet service provider.
If you're unsure, check your email client (for example, Outlook) and click on the properties of your main account; you will likely find the exact syntax of your SMTP server somewhere.

Hello, I have a connection problem with Spykee. I registered everywhere, configured everything properly, and when I enter the username and password to log in, they tell me
ROBOT UNAVAILABLE
Where does this problem come from?

If you used a different password when registering on the Meccano site than the one recorded in your Spykee, in the Spykee configuration, then you need to use the admin password associated with your Spykee and not the one you registered on the Meccano site. If that's the case, try this and you will see it will solve your problem.
Goodbye and have fun with your robot :-)

Rovio versus Spykee: What is Meccano doing??
Hello everyone,
I just sent an email to Meccano's customer service, the content of which is as follows. I will share their response as soon as possible.
“The arrival of the Rovio is making a lot of noise: https://www.journaldunet.com/hightech/1018136-rovio-le-robot-qui-voit-entend-bouge-et-parle-pour-vous/
Many are wondering if they made the right choice concerning Spykee in light of Rovio's superior performance (as you can see in the video on page 5 of this article).
I believe it is high time to provide very precise answers to a number of questions regarding Spykee's delay compared to Rovio:
Are you working on an online interface that would allow connection to Spykee using a login/password to avoid the need for the console installation on the remote computer?
This question is doubly important because for many, Spykee owners are also iPhone/iTouch and other Smartphone owners, which are not compatible with your console.
The simple fact of being unable to connect to their robot with their usual navigation tools poses a real problem for Spykee users, and the temptation for a fully accessible Rovio will quickly materialize if something is not done on your side.
Do you plan to offer a motorized replacement head for the robot?
Indeed, the Rovio has 3 positions (low, medium, and high) while Spykee's camera is completely static. Once again, this argument is likely to hit home in favor of Rovio.
Already, some are looking into the question of motorizing Spykee's head and providing it with more respectable lighting, but this approach is not within everyone's reach, and it would be welcome if you offered accessible replacement solutions. We all, by choosing Spykee, bet on the interchangeability of the robot's parts and Meccano's ability to quickly evolve its product. We therefore expect precise information from you on the forthcoming developments for Spykee.
Finally, Rovio has a terrain recognition system, thanks to an infrared sensor, which makes an automatic mode possible. Are you planning something equivalent?
I ask you to answer all these questions clearly and precisely. Woodenness cannot satisfy Spykee users, and I draw your attention to the fact that all members of the recent community are tech enthusiasts and will not settle for vague promises.
We have all invested a significant amount in purchasing the robot and we are all ready to develop the community and support Spykee. However, in this context, we expect genuine cooperation and maximum transparency from you. It wouldn't take much today for us to sell our robots en masse to pursue a more responsive competitor. So, I look forward to your replies.
Sincerely.”
Let’s wait and see what happens.

Hello Kali, hello everyone
Just a quick word to thank you for taking a stand with Meccano... all your requests seem to be those of Spykee users.
As I told you on another blog before going through this one... I recently acquired a Spykee robot that my friend ROSY and I quickly got attached to.... (2 big sentimentalists... lol).
I still haven’t managed to connect remotely... yet I feel like I’m doing everything right...
the console always tells me "Recipient unavailable"
I just signed up on Facebook specifically to join Spykee France!
Cheers to everyone from an old troublemaker!

Hi Marco,
I'm sorry if I haven't replied on other forums, but they don't always notify me by email, and I don't have much time to visit all of them... Which one did you try to contact me on?
You can find me easily here and on Facebook.
So, you need to give me a bit more details about your situation because I admit it's a bit vague for now:
What works, what doesn't work, what are you trying to do when it doesn't work??
Also, try to tell me what the configuration of the PC you're trying to connect from is (personal/professional, firewall, etc)
Have you taken the time to read all the previous posts on this type of problem? Have you tried the different solutions offered to other users? If so, can you tell me what you have already tried that didn't work... that will save us time :o)
So, I'm waiting for your response and I hope I can help you.

Thank you for your response Kali,
So in order:
- AdHoc Mode connection ok
- Local mode connection on Wi-Fi server ok
- I have a different username and password on the SpykeeWorld site than those of my 2 local logins
- I'm making sure that my FreeBox assigns a fixed IP to the robot
- On the router of my Free console, I'm routing (tcp) port xxxxxx to the address of the robot
- On the Spykee console, I'm redirecting this tcp port.
----> And despite all that, wherever I connect remotely, I always get the response "Recipient unavailable"
(I'm using Kaspersky at home, in case that matters)
I'm posting this message on how it works and Facebook just in case....
Thank you and robotic regards to everyone

For the remote connection, here's how I solved the problem:
I couldn't use it without opening a port on my router. Moreover, changing the port turned out to be ineffective.
The solution I found that works:
open a port x on the router other than 9001 and redirect it to the robot using port 9001.
Then, when connecting to the robot from outside, use the IP address with the port number in the classic format: "address:port".
Hoping to help...
Antoine

Hello everyone and best wishes
I just acquired a Spykee for the holidays and I can't get it to work
in adhoc local mode!
I have a SP XP2 computer and a NUMERICABLE modem. I spent a good hour on the phone with
them but with no result; all they told me is that NUMERICABLE and ORANGE are the two servers
that cannot work with the Spykee and that I need to change the Wi-Fi settings.
I did everything the instruction manual said, I registered and downloaded the Spykee console
but with no result—the Spykee number doesn't show up in adhoc local mode.
If someone could help me because I don't know how to access the Wi-Fi; I called a computer technician who told me to enable the Wi-Fi but I don't know how to do that because I think it's the router
(modem) that is blocking access to the Spykee, and I need to access the Wi-Fi to disable the filtering.
Could you please help me as soon as possible? That would be nice, THANK YOU!

I can't connect Spykee either
I have a PC and a live box that does Ethernet and Wi-Fi
since the PC doesn't have Wi-Fi, I added a USB Wi-Fi adapter, but the connection between Spykee and the live box is not happening
yet it says in my settings that the Wi-Fi connection is enabled, but when I go into the Spykee software and click on the red robot, it doesn't find it (local connection)
thank you for helping me, my darling is depressed

HELLO GOLDIO
The solution for the SPYKEE is:
If you have a desktop or laptop computer and the spykee isn't working, it's simple
1) It could be the antivirus blocking it, so just disable the filtering (since the spykee does not have a WEP key)
2) If you have the wireless network connection on your computer (start - connection - wireless network connection)
you need to allow the connection for the spykee.
3) If it's still not working, don't get discouraged because I searched and searched myself and still couldn't find the solution unless you call a technician skilled in IT to resolve the problem.
AND SO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS BUY AN EXTERNAL OR INTERNAL WIFI KEY 54MBPS (preferably external
so there are no problems removing the key) THEN YOU HAVE TO INSTALL IT BY CLICKING ON THE ICON
START A SEARCH, CLICK ON THE SPYKEE, ADD IT TO FAVORITES AND ALLOW THE CONNECTION.
Because it's not enough to read the manual which is of little use if the spykee isn't working.
This way, all users will know what to do if it doesn't work.
ALL THAT'S LEFT IS TO DECOMPRESS LIKE I DID AND ENJOY THE SPYKEE
IT'S A LITTLE COMPLICATED AT FIRST, BUT YOU GET USED TO IT, GOOD GAME.
GOODBYE

Hi
sorry for the late reply!!
for your problem, if it isn't solved yet, I recommend resetting the spykee
there's a white button located underneath its chassis that needs to be pressed
have a good time with your spykee
(I'm taking the opportunity to tell all the users of this site who are desperately looking for answers for their spykee to follow my advice for:
_remote connection
_resetting
_calling mechanic
_asking for advice from a technician
_following your manual
and long live spykee down with rovio)

Hello,
I can’t connect remotely to my robot, but when I’m at home, I try in remote mode and it works very well. I just need to take the same laptop as at home and connect it to a different Wi-Fi connection, 3G, or cable, and it doesn’t work. It says I need to try again or check the FAQ section of the Spykee site. Thank you in advance.
Best regards.

Hello everyone!
Well.., I'm feeling pretty desperate here.., I received my Spykee 5 days ago.., I assembled it right away.., but I still can't connect it simply in adhoc!!! (it's really frustrating)
So, my computer's window sees the "network" SPYKEE001654..etc, I click on it, and after a few seconds I get the message saying "connected".., so I deduce that it's good.., I launch the skypee console, and there my spykee is not even displayed in "Local Robots" mode.. why?!
I tried getting back onto my wifi network to connect to the robot remotely.., but without really believing it.., and I was right to not believe it!
Does anyone have an idea WHY even in adhoc my console does not "detect" the robot??
All the posts I've read above talk mainly about people who can't connect remotely.., but they all managed to connect in adhoc..., which is what worries me!! :o\
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hello
sorry for the late reply
to connect the spykee remotely from one side of the world to the other, you just need to have a type box router
and the spykee at its home.
A computer at your workplace, connected to the internet, or at your friends', it doesn't matter...
(disable any firewalls that might block your spykee, you never know, and especially a connection from computer to computer) for the rest, take your spykee console and enter the name of your spykee in the remote connection
which is found under the chassis of your spykee, e.g., spykee0811016134, then click ok, then enter your username and password, and tada, the spykee is connected from Paris to Dunkirk. Make sure you have a good connection so that the image and the spykee are perfectly connected without any issues.
SPEAKING OF ISSUES, I RECOMMEND THAT EVERYONE CHECKS OUT SPYKEEWORLD
BECAUSE THERE ARE TIPS FOR THE SPYKEE RECHARGE BASE, WHICH IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO YOUR SPYKEE.
I hope I have addressed your issue, if not, refer to my previous answers.
there is always a solution to every problem
I hope all these answers can resolve everyone's issues
because spykee is a revolutionary robot and pure bliss for all users.
