What is the best free anti-spam?

Hello,

I would like to know what is the best
free anti-spam software in French for Outlook Express 6?
I do not want to change my email software but simply stop receiving the dozens of unwanted emails I get daily.

    It should be noted that there are many anti-spam analysis methods.
    For example:
    - Lexical analysis
    - Blacklists
    - Collaborative spam databases
    - Bayesian filters
    - Sender authentication

    While blacklists and lexical analyses were very effective at the very beginning (2000s), today they are no longer effective at all.

    For my part, I believe that the future is sender authentication!

    It works like this:

    When an unknown sender writes to you for the first time, they receive an email asking them to authenticate. Then you directly receive their emails.

    You can download the Anti-Spam v2015 software, which is based on the authentication method without going through a third-party server or website (for much more privacy). Moreover, as you mentioned, you do not need to change your email software.

      Unfortunately, it is impossible to install the software. A window opens indicating that "the server is not responding. Timeout: the server did not respond in the allotted time."

      Yes, the hacker knows how to access Messenger addresses that are in your data if he has managed to penetrate; if you haven’t saved the passwords in your contacts’ addresses, the hacker won’t be able to know them. He doesn’t know his code unless the hacker has managed to penetrate the person in question

    I solved this problem a long time ago.

    I use Outlook Express, okay? to read my mail. And to reply to it ... (offline... or online) ..

    But my emails are from Hotmail or other types that can be received directly with Outlook Express, through synchronization... by creating new identities.

    So, with Hotmail, you just need to set the filtering level to "exclusive"... that way you will only receive emails from those who are in your address book... the others go to the spam folder... which you can check or not ..

    Moreover, you are also protected for free against viruses....

    I have been using this system for a long time and I’m satisfied with it..

    And no spam in my Outlook inbox and no viruses.

    The only constraint is to occasionally empty Hotmail, taking care beforehand to create "local folders on Outlook Express if you want to save all your messages" ...

    It’s really simple.

    No subscription is necessary with Hotmail; if you choose the basic plan, the mailbox capacity is 2 MB. The subscription is optional if you select the higher option.

    Open a Hotmail account. Period.

    It should be noted, according to the messages I receive from Hotmail, that the capacity of Hotmail will be increased for free...

    The 2 MB capacity of Hotmail is certainly a handicap, which is why it is important to regularly clear it out. (To do this, I created a local folder in Outlook and I transfer the messages I want to save there before going on Hotmail to empty the mailbox.)

    The advantage is that it syncs with Outlook Express, which is not the case with many other email services (by creating a new identity in Outlook) (POP)...

    Among other advantages, the anti-spam feature is free. Go to options on your Hotmail web page, filtering, and check exclusive.

    Exclusive means you only receive mail from people in your address book. There are other options; you can receive other mail from "junk mail" and you are not obliged to check or open it... choose your destruction date.

    Attachments are scanned by an antivirus.

    All of this is free if you choose the original plan (2 MB for now)...

    As far as I am concerned... it works perfectly... No spam gets through. I only receive in my Outlook inbox the messages from my known correspondents because I read from there.

      When I create my identity in OE (my Hotmail account already exists), I get the following message at the first login to Hotmail:

      "Unable to connect to Hotmail as <address>@hotmail.com

      Hotmail no longer allows access to messaging via Outlook Express for free email accounts"

      This, while having set a connection mode "HTTP"

      With a POP3 connection mode, and POP3 server "http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp" pre-filled by OE, there's an error message at login, unknown POP3 server.

      It seems that Hotmail no longer provides OE access for free accounts, but since it works for you, did they keep it for old users?

      What settings do you use to connect to Hotmail via OE?

      And unofficial reason, IMO: MS having decided to sell its anti-spam solutions, can no longer provide them via free Hotmail access, as it would be competing with itself...

        It is true that I haven't created any new Hotmail accounts for at least 6 months... and until now there has been no problem... and there is still no problem currently. It works with Outlook Express, but also with IncrediMail... to synchronize, I just followed the instructions in Outlook Express, and I let it do its thing....

        So, I don't know if the old accounts are spared... apparently mine is.... but in the messages I regularly receive from Hotmail, it's nothing but positive.

        That's exactly it, people like you who have an old Hotmail address should definitely keep it.

        You can do a test to convince yourself of MS's policy changes: create a new Hotmail account, and try to sync it with OE like the old one. In theory, unless I had smoked too much carpet at the time I did the manipulation myself, it shouldn't work!

        This leaves the original question completely open: "Do you know a good free anti-spam?" :-)

    Spam Fighter is not a Microsoft product and poses some problems as it sends ads to all your contacts in every email you send (in the free version). Moreover, it sometimes misclassifies good messages as spam. This is quite annoying because you then have to check all the emails in the spam folder. What is the point of an anti-spam tool then?

    You would have understood that, for me, the number one quality of an anti-spam tool is to avoid false positives. The percentage of spam detected comes second.

    After quite a few tests, I think the problem of false positives exists with all free anti-spam tools. Spam Fighter, with its different method, could have avoided this issue, but unfortunately, it still has it.     I am currently testing SpamBayes, which has an excellent reputation, is free and ad-free, and has not yet given me any false positives while filtering very well. It’s a bit early for me to make a judgment, but it could be the best choice for free options.

    There are better choices if you pay:

    Vade Retro is excellent but has two drawbacks: it is quite expensive and a bit cumbersome to use since every undetected spam must be handled by deciding what type of blocking to apply in the future: block the address or the entire domain of the sender. I used it for a year without any false positives other than a few newsletters (not a big deal).

    But in terms of performance and simplicity, the best choice is iHateSpam or Cloudmark (same method and shared database). iHateSpam being much cheaper (definitely the least expensive of the paid options), is the one I recommend even if it sometimes forgets to scan the first batch of messages after waking from hibernation and requires you to run the scan manually in that case.
    You will find its test in the same article as SpamBayes. It is (or Cloudmark) the anti-spam recommended by several reputable publications. But beware: there are currently only two versions: Outlook and Outlook Express. If you are using something else, you can pass or look at Cloudmark, which is more expensive.

      Honestly, I don't know what you see in false positives with Spamfighter: with the standard settings and using Spamfighter Pro,
      for the past 5 years, I haven't had ANY FALSE POSITIVES out of the 33,000 emails received, of which about 14,000 were blocked...
      I should specify that for 2 years I scrutinized my inbox to see if there were any false positives before giving up, and I never had any feedback from senders urging me to check my spam folder.

      This anti-spam has the following features for my business email: 98% detection of junk emails, 0% false positives, and 2% of junk emails remaining that I promptly report to Spamfighter so that other users don't receive them!

      Thank you, Spamfighter! Unmatched efficiency in my opinion, and it especially saves time searching through the spam folder ... to all those who are tired of wasting time because of spammers, I recommend it!

    I don't know of any messaging services that offer as many possibilities; I have tested several. If anyone knows of one, please let me know. I did try Yahoo, but the antivirus... hmm... moreover, it doesn't sync with Outlook, but it also has a messenger with WC and has a capacity of 6 MB instead of 2 with Hotmail.

    So I will stick with Hotmail... unless someone knows another one... that works with Outlook, has good antivirus, good anti-spam, an effective messenger working with WC, and the ability to send large files...

    The only drawback is the 2 MB... but to send large files, we can use MSN Messenger.

      I also have an old hotmail account, I saw it now has 250 MB, and 10 MB allowed per message, in the basic (free) plan. Well, it still works with Outlook Express, which is my default email client, and it also works with Incredimail when I want to read it with the latter.

      I also have another one for my wife, and it’s the same, no problem, we’ve done tests back and forth, the sending is good and the reception is good, even with heavy messages.

      It’s strange that yours is not the same.

      Other testimonies would be good to take.

      WebDAV, in my opinion, is for spam; I would like more details on this, but I know that my Hotmail filtering level is at maximum, meaning that I checked the "exclusive" box. This might be what WEBDAV is.

      And this would explain why it still works for me... well, I think.

      You should check how you have set up your junk email filtering level.

    ...I have Hotmail, and the filtering level is not bad in any case for non-personal mail. However, before I had Norton 2004, I had downloaded K9 from ZDNet, and it filtered about 90%, but now I have the antivirus included... But K9 is good...

    In any case, don't go to wspscanner.com. When you visit their page, they perform a fake analysis and then shove the download in your face. My father is quite old and isn't very savvy with the internet; he just checks his emails and stuff like that, and he got scared seeing that and ended up downloading the software, then of course he bought it. The funniest part is that they keep showing the download window all the time; it's pure and simple fraud.
