Trails on my screen

Question

Hello,

So here's my problem; for several months now, my PC has been leaving gray trails around (almost) every element displayed in an open window.

I would like to know how to solve this problem.

Is it serious, should I take it to get repaired? (the warranty is about to expire but not yet... so please advise me quickly..)

I have Windows XP. I don't know what additional information to provide you, thank you for your help.

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello everyone,
Having the same problem for a few weeks now, my curiosity led me to this topic... I was intrigued by the solution that involved changing the cable to solve the issue. In fact, I've been using this screen for two or three years and it has only been a few weeks since white (or gray) streaks started appearing. At first, I thought my screen was showing signs of wear, but if changing the cable can fix everything, that proves that's not true...

Being the frugal person I am, I checked my cable, which doesn't seem to have any faults, and I lightly manipulated the small black plastic "coil" located a few centimeters from the screen side connector, and there was a miracle!!! No more streaks! So it seems to be a matter of static electricity (or something like that) accumulating around this coil that needs to be "discharged" by handling it with your fairy fingers, hehe.

already a response, wow!! Thank you!  It's a flat screen in width, I can't remember how many inches...  I feel like I'm going to have to pull out all the paperwork to answer the next questions.

Give your display settings (right-click on the desktop, then properties, tab settings / resolution and color quality). You can even try "Troubleshoot" in this tab.

I did the manip; so I have the resolution: the arrow at maximum; 1440 by 900 pixels, in color quality: optimal (32 bits).  I clicked on troubleshoot but nothing matches my problem...

I made the mistake to see if everyone was following.

Now let's look at the "Refresh Rate"

start / control panel / display / settings / advanced / screen /

note the figure in "Hertz".......>at least 75 hertz is required

Lol!  Not even noticed!..  I only have 59 and 60 hertz and it's on 60 hertz...

I just set it to 59 hertz, it doesn't change anything...  Is it normal that I only have 59 and 60 as options?  Thanks

Activate it if it's not done...

I couldn't say... you'll have to test the screen with devices for sure.

Try your screen on another PC if you can...

It's the time it takes for a "Led" to turn off and on.

I heard that this is called filming!  It indicates the end of the screen's life or a poor grounding that can damage the screen. I have the same problem...  Unfortunately, I can't find out more.

Hello,

I know this topic is old but I'm bringing it back because I recently had the same problem with my brand new screen, with trails following my windows when I moved them... I did all the tests proposed by Windows in the display settings (when you click on the "troubleshoot" button) but nothing worked despite restarting the computer.

So, I had the idea to change the VGA cable (I had connected the VGA cable from my old screen to the new one) by replacing it with the one provided with the new screen. And there: ta-da, everything works!

So to those who might experience this... test with another cable!

I had the same problem, and it was nothing simpler, I unplugged the VGA cable from the tower, blew on it once (I don't know if that did anything), reconnected it and there you go, back to normal.
