Error message: WSAStartup failed

Hello,

I am using Windows Vista on an Acer computer.

My computer was working perfectly fine (internet, etc.), and suddenly I lost internet connection for no reason. After testing with the PS3, the connection works just fine (I am with Free, with phone, TV, etc.).

So, I decided to restart the computer, Windows boots up, I enter the password without any problem, but then it takes a very long time to reboot, and the "welcome" message stays on abnormally long. Then, the screen turns black, and after a long while, the desktop appears with a little error message "WSAStartup failed", and a Windows notification at the bottom right says "Failed to connect to a Windows service - Windows could not connect to the system event notification service...".

As a result, I can no longer access the internet at all... I tried to contact Acer's technical support, but of course, they are closed >_<

Help, I don't know anything about computers, I need assistance! Right now I'm on my old laptop xD

Thank you in advance ^^
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0

Here is the solution:

Open the Command Prompt as Administrator (to do this, go to Start - Accessories, right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator").

Then type the magic formula: "netsh winsock reset"
Press enter, and restart your computer...

And that's all there is to it...

Good evening,
I have been facing the same problems mentioned in previous forums regarding the WSASTartup failed, along with all the associated hassles, for exactly two days now. No internet access and other annoyances. Since I am definitely not an expert on the subject, I had some hope to resolve it following your advice. That is not the case: My operating system is Vista, and at the command prompt, I applied the "magic formula," here is the response I received:
the initialization function initHelperDLL in NSHHTTP.DLL failed, error code 10 107
the requested operation requires an evaluation.
What should I do?
Thank you for any solutions or advice.

well. Acer computer, no connection, firewall disabled, a disaster, so slow. Thank you for the magic formula

Hello,

For me (actually, for my computer), the "magic formula" worked like a charm, everything is back to normal.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.............................

I want to point out that the same thing is happening with a friend, and that a buddy who is an IT professional should solve this problem tomorrow.

So, when I know how to solve it, that is to say, tomorrow.

Well, I will warn you and give you the solution.

There you go, best regards, yodaflo.
