Manga scan / recruitment

Hello,

I am currently working on the translation and adaptation of an unlicensed manga in France "Yamato nadeshiko"...

Being alone on the project (at least for now, I hope)... it represents a huge workload between cleaning/editing/translating/adapting and especially the many checks (and since it can be difficult to spot one's own mistakes or to have the necessary perspective to judge one's work, especially in this field, I need someone).

To be clear, I am looking for one, two, or even three people with one or more of the following skills:

-Clean/Editing: this consists of cleaning the pages of text in the English version (especially the text embedded in the image), possibly to rework the blacks if necessary / then the translated text in French needs to be aesthetically reintegrated into the image, adhering to an established caste (in this case, the text just needs to be written in the "anime ace" font, nothing too complicated).

---->Prerequisites: have Photoshop and be motivated (if you're a beginner, I can provide some very simple tutorials) nothing very complicated but it's a meticulous task.

Translator/Adapter: well, that seems obvious to me ^^... you need to be proficient in English and capable of transcribing into proper French (I am not particularly interested in someone who would just translate literally because in that case, it would be more efficient for me to continue taking on the entire translation/adaptation myself in terms of saving time....) so I emphasize the mention of adapting.

A checker: They track down the last spelling mistakes and possibly think of more appropriate phrasings for the drawings (Even if the translation/adaptation is good, sometimes a little push helps with adaptation) they check the aesthetics of the edition.... basically, they are the advising reader. (who can actually have fun tracking down the mistakes in this post, there must be some ><)

---->Prerequisites: Have near impeccable French and not be afraid to check a dictionary or grammar reference book in case of doubt ^^

In any case, it is important to keep in mind that if you are "applying," it means you are motivated, and once integrated into the project, many people will rely on you... so have a bit of free time, and notify when you cannot take on your work (because we all have real-life obligations, and that's normal) so we can redistribute tasks.
In short, while the goal is to have fun working on a nice project in a good atmosphere, keep in mind that we are working as a team and that we are more or less interdependent.

In any case, it is good to specify that this project is non-profit (otherwise, it would be totally illegal) done by fans for fans, which will continue as long as the manga does not have a registered license (but it doesn’t seem to be on the horizon for the coming months).

Why this manga? Well, because no French scanlation/translation team is seriously working on it, and it's a manga that I really enjoy...

A little overview of "Yamato nadeshiko" it is a harem manga very close in humor and structure to the more well-known "Ouran Host Club".

The story: The manga tells the story of Sunako (whose resemblance to Sadako from the film The Ring is quite striking) and four young boys who all live together at her aunt's house and have made a bet with her to turn Sunako into a "Lady" in exchange for free accommodation....

I uploaded a chapter to my FTP so that you can get an idea of both the manga and my current "work" ^^ http://scanmanga.olympe-network.com/

I am also looking for a webmaster (or a budding tinkerer) who could create a nice little website (without pretensions, eh) for distribution and who would work for the love of the art :p

The desires / the future: To progress with Yamato Nadeshiko first and possibly, if the team runs well, tackle other translation projects, all in a good mood.

If you made it this far, thank you for reading ^^

Hello.

I am quite interested in this project. I don't know this manga, but that's not the problem. I already know Ouran High School Host Club and I like it a lot.

I'm willing to take care of the quality check part (by the way, it’s “check” and not “cheek,” which means the cheek). I speak English fluently, but since I probably won't have the time to do the translations diligently, I suggest doing the verification. I can at least correct any translation errors and French spelling mistakes.

You can send me a PM or contact me by email at this address: sharingan[dot]silk[at]gmail[dot]com.

I'll start right away with your post since you're offering it so kindly :-P

“I am currently working on the translation and adaptation” --> “and adaptation”
“unlicensed manga” --> “which is not licensed” (license = to fire)
“to uncover these own mistakes” --> “his/her own mistakes”
“to judge his work” --> “to judge his work”
“I will need” --> “I would need” (conditional)
“Being alone...”, “To be clear” --> Are you a boy or a girl?
“two people see three people” --> “or”
“a few very simple tutorials” --> “very simple”
“someone who would settle” --> “would settle”
“to continue to take” --> “to”
“this wouldn’t be” --> “would be”
“eventually reflected on” --> “reflected on”
“advisory reader” --> “advisory reader”
“and once integrated” --> “once”
“of the real life” --> “real”

I'll stop here, but there are others ;-)

Hello,
I am Belgian-Japanese, speaking, writing, and reading Japanese, passionate about manga and video games.
I also speak English, German, and Luxembourgish.
I have taken courses in graphic design, and Photoshop is not an issue for me.
If given the opportunity, I would be delighted to contribute to this project.

I hope to receive a favorable response as soon as possible.
Thank you in advance.

Hello Sarah!

I'm afraid I have to tell you that this topic is a bit dead...
But your knowledge can still be very useful!

Indeed, I'm looking for someone like you to translate animated mangas.

It's amazing... Just when I was thrilled to find a Jap>Fr... Here comes a second one!

If you're still interested, head over to our forum: $ which I've linked to above. =)

Hope to see you very soon!

Hello Bzittt.

As a holder of a Bachelor's degree in Applied Foreign Languages specializing in English-Japanese, and having been immersed in Japanese culture for many years, I am particularly interested in your offer.

I lived for a year in Nagoya, Japan, and I also have the particularity of being multilingual. Indeed, besides English and Japanese, which I master perfectly, I also speak dialectal Arabic, Spanish, and Russian.

Being part of your project means a lot to me, and I would be delighted to participate in this adventure. I believe I could be useful to you, which is why I took the liberty of responding to this offer, hoping that my application will interest you.

Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you,

Olivia.

^^

Hello Olivia,

Your background caught my attention, and I would like to know if you have enough free time to join another project?
I am currently working on a current affairs project about Japanese culture. Your knowledge would be a real asset for the website in preparation!
If this could potentially interest you, let me know so I can talk to you about it in more detail.

Feel free to contact me by email or MSN!

In any case, good luck for the future and all the best!

Best regards,

Taturo.

Hello to all applicants.

We have learned (well, let's say that Bzitt learned and informed me) that Yamato has just been licensed in France and that the release of the French version is planned for the start of the school year (Bzitt, correct me if I'm wrong).

We have therefore decided to change projects since it would be a bit silly to translate only a few chapters and then remove them right after.

We are currently reviewing a few titles that have just started in order to find one that interests us. We will keep you updated on our deliberations soon. I haven't had much time to read everything, but among what Bzitt proposed to me, I've already narrowed down the list.

However, since it seems that there are quite a few people interested in a scanlation project, we remain open to your title suggestions if you have any mangas you particularly like. Don't hesitate to send them to us via private message or directly in this thread.

This message has nothing to do with the translation of Yamato Nadeshiko, but I want to translate another manga and there are currently no US translations available
Thank you

A little update on the situation... we are still looking for:

a translator/adaptor: English/French
and/or
an editor/cleaner on Photoshop (beginners accepted as already explained, not complicated but meticulous)

I just took a quick look at a tutorial, so if you're still looking for a cleaner, I'm in.

Indeed, such a proposal for help was almost unexpected ^^ English/Japanese translators are not really common... What I propose, if you don't mind, is for you to send me your contact details (email and/or MSN) via private message... I would have sent you mine, but since you are not registered on this forum, I can't do that...

Hoping to hear from you soon.

Kisses

Hello Olivia, I would also like to draw on your knowledge... But first, I’d like to know a bit more about you.
You say you translate from Japanese to English... But your level of French seems truly amazing!
Why don't you try translating from Japanese to French directly?

I am actually looking not only for translators but also for other people to develop not paper manga that are unlicensed, but unlicensed anime...

Also, if anyone is interested, I would be happy to invite them to visit our fansub site:
http://manga-dream-fansub.com

We will always need you!

Thank you very much for reaching out to me! To answer you, I am indeed capable of translating from French to Japanese and vice versa. To be honest, I think I can confidently say that I master French, English, and Japanese, so I can translate between these three languages without too much difficulty :)

If you are still interested in my services, feel free to contact me!

Hello,

Thank you for your response!
I would love to get in touch with you, but to be honest, I'm a bit hesitant to give out my address directly on such a public forum as this one...
That's why I'm going to send you the link to our forum instead...
All you have to do is sign up by providing your email (which I will be able to see since I'm an admin), and then I will send you an email to discuss all of this...
You can't imagine how rare it is for people who know Japanese and French...

I consider myself very lucky that your response has been positive for us!
A thousand thanks!

See you soon,
Robin.

Hello, I wanted to know if your project has come to fruition because if that’s the case, I would really like to benefit from the results since I find the scans in English and English is far from being my specialty. And if you have made progress, please let me know if it's possible to find it somewhere!!

I'm sorry, but the project is somewhat at a standstill (my fault but beyond my control). I haven't had the time to do anything lately. I'm overwhelmed with work.

The product of our project will probably be available for download when we have the time to make progress, and we will put it online when we have a website (which I will take care of creating and hosting). Unfortunately, this is not expected in the coming days.

Hello bloored,

So you’re looking into paper manga creation... I’m not sure if the topic is still up to date...
So I don’t know if you’ll be able to get a response, but I hope for you! :)

If you’re looking into animated manga creation (I saw you liked that...) well, I might be able to help?

Best regards,
Robin

I would like to become a translator or can you teach me please?

Hello everyone,

I am currently looking for a nice team to join as a translator, checker, or other... I've recently started reading scans online.

Indeed, I've realized that most of the scans you can find online are in English, and unfortunately, young French people are not very keen on this language... Being a fan of manga for about fifteen years now, I would really like to share all those available (or at least a few of them ^^) using my personal skills...

I have a quite (if not very) good level of English, an excellent level of French in terms of spelling, so I offer myself as a translator or checker, and I would be happy to learn the techniques of cleaning and editing if that could help...

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Best regards,

Talraii

Hello, I really like this manga and I would be interested in doing translations when I have the time (I should note that I am a student and therefore I don't always have a lot of free time). I have a good level of English (I speak it fluently and read mangas online in English). So if the offer still stands and if you are okay with my proposal, I would be thrilled to be part of the team.
