Hello everyone,

So here it is, a friend of mine messed up a bit on my computer. At first glance, one might think it was me who made the mistake and that I’m not owning up to it, but I swear it wasn’t me who did it.

Earlier, I installed the trial version of a video editing software (AVS Video Remaker), and I found the font size to be abnormally small... and I made the mistake of saying it out loud (I really, really should have just kept my mouth shut). So the guy went into "Configure Wine" - which was already a bad idea - and he moved the virtual desktop resolution slider (?) all the way to one end (to the right, I think, but I wasn't really close to the screen at that moment), and now we can only see the top of the window because it has become so enormous. Oh, I definitely should NOT have said anything and should have asked him not to touch anything. The worst part is that I didn’t really care much about the font size of that software (I'm talking about AVS Video Remaker here).
We tried quite a few things to fix this: tabbing (in every direction), I uninstalled (among other things with "complete removal") and reinstalled Wine several times, occasionally rebooting, I tried installing different versions of Wine (I might need to try that again), but nothing works.

Does anyone know how to reduce that window, or select another resolution? If so, could you please let me know how?

Thank you in advance.
Configuration: Acer Aspire 3651 Portable Linux Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron Firefox 3.0

To reconfigure wine, do like your friend, go through the wine configuration panel:
winecfg

If it's not manageable this way, clear your wine configuration files:
rm -rf ~/.wine sudo dpkg --purge wine sudo aptitude install wine

Good luck

Thank you so much, it worked. Ah, what a relief.

In the meantime, I had pushed stupidity to its peak: I managed to change the resolution using three tabulations, but then I typed 640 and 640, just to run a test; however, that’s a higher resolution than I should have chosen, because I couldn’t even click on "Emulate a virtual desktop." But eventually, by trial and error, I got back to the previous resolution, but I couldn't find an appropriate resolution. Maybe I was typing impossible resolutions or ones not supported by my screen, or by Wine?

Anyway, thanks again, everything is back in order.

No idea about the resolution issues, but it was clearly Wine that was misconfigured if the commands I gave you solved the problem.

Good luck!
