Has anyone tested SkyDSL?

I live in a small village where ADSL probably won't arrive for years... The only solution available to me is satellite ADSL, and I feel like SkyDSL offers good services.
If anyone can give me their opinion, thanks in advance!

Hello,

And here I am, having been duped by Skydsl as well.

Recently, I wanted to switch from Nordnet because I was often hitting the download limit (30GB). I turned to Skydsl; unlimited satellite internet  .

Indeed, during the first month, I was thrilled, good speed, no limit (51GB this month), I could surf on my PC and tablet at the same time without any issues. And then.... strangely, without any explanations, the following month, nothing, impossible to surf properly, impossible to watch a short 5-minute video, well, if I manage to do it......but it takes 15 minutes because it lags  . Surprised, I contacted the "customer service" (I put it in quotes because it's really not customer service), at first, they gave me the usual spiel, you share bandwidth with 49 others blah blah blah...so I asked them if my 49 fellow users had logged on last month because everything was working just fine!
well...AH!? We're going to have you run speed tests: I did 3 as requested....the results were crap, really bad...

I then thought: there’s a problem, they will surely find a solution for me.

Their response: everything is fine, it's your equipment (PC + router) that's not suitable.        My PC is brand new, and it's the same one I used last month when everything worked perfectly (yes yes, I insist, but they really struggle to understand at Skydsl). So, the tone escalated a bit in the emails I sent them, as they offered me nothing concrete. Just keep repeating that everything is fine... No offer to try the higher plan, no commercial gesture, no dialogue, they really leave the customer in a tight spot.

So, paying €60 a month for nothing is not for me. I asked them for the procedure to cancel and BAM, I receive an email saying that anyway, it had already been done and that my subscription would end at the end of the following month...great, my plan is useless but super easy to cancel lol.

I also asked them to reimburse me for the expenses incurred during my subscription and there...it's a masterpiece, a true con job...they pulled out their general conditions (you know, the tiny print in a painfully boring read)...and how can I say it....wow, it's like 10kg of petroleum jelly. The customer must pay but can't claim anything if there’s any problem...pay and keep your mouth shut...yes, that still exists.

So, ladies and gentlemen, NEVER, I repeat NEVER subscribe to anything with these people (who should change their name to CryDSL: so bad you cry)

With that said, I’m going back to Nordnet.

Bye bye

skydsl is not suitable for downloading movies.
The system automatically throttles for bandwidth reasons on the satellite, and the speed quickly drops for heavy downloaders, even leading to quarantines to avoid penalizing all users.
And it can fall below an RTC 56K.
Otherwise, the maximum I’ve had is 115k (in service for 8 days)
go take a look here:

Personally, I've been subscribed to SkyDSL for 3 months, and I have no complaints, quite the opposite.
The technical performance is very efficient and smooth. I never would have suspected such quality. High technology is on the right track!
On the other hand, SES ASTRA (Netbysky) doesn't have a very good reputation, at least in my area (Creuze). I have a friend who got into trouble (defective equipment) and it took him a while to get it replaced.
There you go, I hope my opinion on the matter has interested you!

I chose skydsl a year ago because the cable operator really wasn't delivering... We were paying for nothing... Here, the connections are flawless, with good bandwidth and very satisfactory speed. Our internet life has finally begun...

Hi

Skydsl is flawless! I took the unlimited plan at €30/month + unlimited wanamoo at €20 and it works perfectly.
Plus, the provided kit is very well-designed and really inexpensive, and the paid hotline (nobody's perfect)
gives good advice in French.
This company made a very good impression on me.

Personally, I'm subscribed to the sky768 plan from Netbysky and it's the best => currently 93 kb/s on an FTP!!!

See you later

Personally, I'm having a blast with skydsl at a reasonable rate of 30 euros a month. It was unexpected in my little town.

It can always be useful to find information that I might not be able to provide...

By the way, I discovered a super nice and comprehensive movie site called Ecran Large. It's so cool to surf for a long time without stressing about the price or because there might be a disconnection!

Hi Olivier.
No problem with Sky DSL.
Equipment delivered + one month subscription = 60 euros.
I took 3 GB to try.
Here is the first bill.
The second bill = 30 euros for one month unlimited.
I’ll skip the cents.
Of course, in addition unlimited low-speed connection at 25 euros per month.
Connection between a Vista Home Edition and a XP Pro without any issues.
Via network card. Works also in Wi-Fi.
Download at 250 Ko/s.
Updates are very fast.
Transmission at 2 Mo/s or 4 by paying 1.5 c/Mo.
I’m super satisfied. (In the sense that I can't rely on terrestrial ISPs).
I believe that if we don’t all have ADSL2 in France, it’s because they are either useless or thieves since they charge us more for low-speed than for high-speed.
Example ORANGE: Unlimited low-speed at 25 euros per month, unlimited high-speed at 19.90.
In my opinion, you can go for it with Sky DSL.

Hello;
for me too, ADSL is not for tomorrow...
so here I am among you.
Can someone tell me if I need to keep my RTC connection with Wanadoo/Orange or can I cancel my subscription?

Thank you very much.

Hi,
Interesting, [http://www.telesatellite.com/articles/SkyDSL/index.asp?p=1] , we need to see what it’s like in terms of price and availability...

Kalamit,
Talk to my ass, my engine block is sick. :)

It's good for 8 Mbps but he says the bill has to be really big for 8 Mbps than 128 Kbps :-/

On top of that, there's a big inconvenience for me, the download limit is 60 MB per file. So I can't download the embedded car videos which are often over 50 MB... :-/

My mom showed me a new satellite for France, it's SES ASTRA (Netbysky) -> 768 Kbps for €60 per month with TV channels included. Not bad for non-ADSL areas for that price?

It's better than SkyDSL in my opinion.

Here's the link below:

Have you tried skyDSL? If so, what is your opinion?
Is the speed of 1 Mbit/s respected?
Sincerely and thank you in advance.

Yes, but if I want to download something that is 280 MB (like a video), SkyDSL only supports up to 60 MB per file maximum! That's a big drawback for me. And SkyDSL has some limitations compared to SES ASTRA as well...

But I don't know if there’s another satellite that is more advantageous than SkyDSL and SES ASTRA.

Write about this discussion, it’s free!

:-)

I can't test it because I can't connect to the satellite (I've been trying in vain for 8 days). What should I do?
Thank you.

Have you tried authenticating your machine???
As for me, where I work, we offer SkyDSL and it's great in terms of pricing and download speed.

Hi Robert, I just got the skydsl basic offer + unlimited option for about thirty euros a month.
Everything is working perfectly except the network. Can you explain to me how you did it, please?
Thanks

Hello,
I've been with Skydsl for a few months now with a low-speed Orange connection, and it works great. Our only difficulty was finding the satellite at first and especially fixing the dish without losing the signal. But with a few hours of effort, it's all good.

ROBERT: How did you connect 2 PCs to Wi-Fi from a low-speed connection (from which modem?); I have 2 PCs that are not equipped with Wi-Fi cards, and before moving, I was connecting via high speed using a router modem and a USB Wi-Fi "stick" for the second PC, but now with low speed, I'm unable to connect using that same modem and have to use the internal modem.

Thanks

Hello,
I've subscribed to the SkyDSL offer for 8 days now, however I can't seem to use it. I start my low-speed connection, up to this point no problem, but as soon as I launch SkyDSL, I can't open any web pages or download anything, in short, I can't use the internet? Does anyone have any leads??
Thanks in advance

Would it be beneficial for a household with 5 PCs (including 3 laptops with Wi-Fi) where ADSL is not yet available?
And is it possible to have a Wi-Fi modem router to share the connection?

Edouard LOISEAU

Yes, it is entirely possible to share the SkyDSL signal between 5 PCs or even more.

I have (among other things) completed a setup of this kind (SkyDSL + Tiscali low-speed unlimited + Wi-Fi sharing via D-Link 3200AP router) for a client where there are 10 employees, and it works great.

Of course, you need to know how to configure a Windows business network (XP Home in their case) for file sharing and the TCP/IP settings for sharing the connection.

The only limitation is the low speed: fortunately, they are not surfing at 10 at the same time, as the upload speed would be too low (theoretical 56k/10). But for downloading, it's really a game-changer for them. They were able to do all the Windows updates, etc., and are rediscovering the Internet (before they had one PC for emails, and that was it, sharing it among 10!).

I will subscribe to the conversation; if someone has any questions...

See you later

Edouard

Hello, I have a Sky DSL internet connection (56k modem + Sky DSL PCI card), and I want to create a Wi-Fi network for our laptops in the house. I just bought a Netgear router, but I'm having trouble installing it. Can you please help me? Thank you.

Hello,

I don't have the possibility of having ADSL in my village, so I'm looking into satellite connection these days; apparently, it seems like a good way to surf at a reasonable price.
I wanted to know, since I'm not very knowledgeable about this: I have a website and I need to post new photos every day, not a lot, but still, and I wanted to know if having a satellite connection would make my life easier, given that we send information through our regular connection if I understood correctly, and it's just the reception that will be faster, right?
Also, did you install the satellite setup yourself, or is there a possibility of having a professional do it?

Thanks to those who already have SkyDSL for your answers.

Hello, I've been using Skydsl for a little over 2 years now (at least I'm trying...) and I really can't wait to get rid of this solution.
The connection is often unstable and I'm forced to use 56kbps (at the moment I'm writing this message, I'm on a slow connection because with Sky, the connection was suddenly interrupted).
Sky doesn’t work in fog, rain, or snow (even after clearing the satellite dish), which limits its use in certain regions...!!!
For any technical issues related to installation, commissioning, or compatibility, their technical service is quick and efficient.
When it comes to connection stability problems, curiously, there are no solutions anymore..!!!
To add to the picture, a few months ago, they suddenly stopped taking payments without being able to give me a reason, and since then it has been a hassle to settle them every month... I thought it was my fault and asked several knowledgeable acquaintances to look into the issue... but no! There’s a problem here too and no solutions with answers like: "We are sorry to read about your dissatisfaction"....... Sadness.....
All this for a monthly average of €60 in addition to the slow connection, knowing that this service only works for receiving, it makes for an expensive hassle...
Conclusion: for me, Sky is a bad provider, I would recommend avoiding it.

Here is the typical example of a message that gives a product a bad reputation for no reason.

Without casting blame on Malo, the problem does not come from Skydsl but from the installation: did you have it done by a professional (get reimbursed ;-) ? Otherwise, did you use the right tools (a field meter to correctly orient the dish) ?

I bet you didn't!

So if Skydsl works everywhere but not for some, it's not Skydsl's fault but rather your installation.

Okay, it could perhaps be better explained on their website, but after all, they are also merchants. If you buy a computer or a car, no one asks you if you know how to use it...

That's exactly why they have a network of partners for local support (pre-sales advice, installation, and ongoing support); why not have called on them? There is still time (in an hour your dish will be oriented and your computer system set up correctly (anti-virus, firewall, drivers,...?)

Get some help, because the product works well.

Best regards,

Edouard
