Hello,
Of course, this is an old post, but here is my opinion:
I assume that associations need funding to survive, and also a certain weight (number of members = representativeness) to be taken into account and be credible with public authorities in their legal actions...
One can understand that the minimal requirement, to be defended, is the amount of the membership fee, while keeping in mind that there is no absolute guarantee of success: we are not in a commercial service relationship (like a lawyer, who also does not guarantee anything, except generally his fees).
Joining such an association is somewhat like contributing to the general defense of consumers beyond one's own case.
But I also understand the disappointment of someone for whom an "investment" of €30 would already represent a significant sum.
For thought, in a deregulated context where all commercial moves seem allowed, it seems that the eventual disappearance of the DGCCRF (Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control), which was a complementary means of defense, is being planned.
If we criticize consumer defense associations too harshly, consumers risk finding themselves quite helpless in the face of commercial aggression that now seems limitless.
