Hello,
First of all, here is my setup:
A 500GB Lacie mini Home edition hard drive with Hipserv
A PC running Vista Ultimate
An Xbox 360
My problem:
The Lacie drive allows reading multimedia files (audio, video, photos...) from DLNA-compatible devices such as the Xbox 360 or Windows Media Player 11 for example.
When I start my Xbox 360 and search for my Lacie, I can find it and all the content is retrieved correctly, but as soon as I play a movie or music, the Lacie disconnects every 5 minutes, cutting off the sound or video continuously... (note that I have to manually restart every time it disconnects...)
So I thought I’d try with Media Player, and I can play audio files without issue but it's IMPOSSIBLE to open a video (Media Player crashes outright upon opening the video...)
That's my problem!!! I've been getting stuck on this for 2 months and I'm running out of ideas... (changed the router, switched to wired instead of Wi-Fi, connected directly to the Lacie... but nothing works!!!)
If anyone has an idea or if the same thing has happened to them...please help me!!
Thank you in advance

Yes, I always encounter the same problem... Impossible to solve it despite my endless research...
Since I've had enough, I bought a Lacie BigDisk 1TB (without HipServ) and now the MP3 streaming works perfectly but still nothing for the DivXs... However, I found a solution (quite cumbersome...) let me explain:
To play the DivXs, I use my media hard drive (ABIGS brand) capable of reading via Ethernet in a shared folder... and there, miracle it works with the BigDisk but not with the Home edition... so I think the firmware of the Home edition is not up to par...
The only problem is that I’m left with a Lacie Home edition 500GB on my hands... ADVICE TO BUYERS... make your offers!!! :p

Phew, I thought I was the only one experiencing this issue. I have almost the same setup as you, gibe4, and I'm encountering the same problem. Disconnection of the LaCie after 5 minutes when I watch multimedia content on my Xbox.
However, I noticed that if I format it and don't turn it off, I can read my media files without interruption. But as soon as I unplug it once, the disconnection issues reappear. I've tried everything, but nothing works. I contacted LaCie support, and they have no solution.

Hi Midzack, I'm with Free and I'm using their router (Freebox V5)...
If you have any ideas, feel free to let me know... ;)

Good evening Gibe4,
I see that you had a Lacie Home Edition ethernet with Hipserv and a Freebox V5, your problem was with the connection to the PSP, but the connection to the box was working fine?
That is to say, the HipServ was working, did you have the possibility of remote access to use iTunes as a server.....
Because I bought it this weekend and plugged it in at a friend's place with a Neuf box and everything was working perfectly, but when I got home I connected it to the Freebox HD and I have access to the disk but no possibility to share and access remotely and even less to be recognized by the iTunes server...
If it was working for you, could you explain the solution please?
Thank you.

Hi Gibe4
I saw that you tried to change your router, I was wondering if the problem was with the Free router which apparently doesn't support UPnP. However, with my two other PCs, there are no issues playing my media files. (videos & music)

Hello,
I'm experiencing exactly the same issue as you. When I set my PCs as multimedia servers, it works without any problems, however, as soon as I access via the Lacie, it disconnects/reconnects after 5 minutes.
I just came back from the seller who seemed knowledgeable. He advises me to format the Lacie Home Edition 500Go in FAT32 instead of NTFS. In any case, that's what he did for a setup similar to ours, and he assured me it worked without any issues.
Otherwise, I think it might be coming from the Freebox and/or the Lacie firmware....
Otherwise, he'll take it back. I'll test that and let you know if it's the solution or not.

Hi everyone,
Explanation of the Problem for DIVX
My setup: Lacie 500Go (before the home edition), Free Router, PS3: all wired
Lacie uses a software called TwonkyVision. This software enables UPnP for Lacie disks.
A new version of TwonkyVision was released earlier this year that allows UPnP for DIVX.
However, Lacie has not yet updated their "software" to include the TwonkyVision update.
And since then, I've been waiting... The UPnP works, except for that.
I also occasionally have disconnections, but they are rare...
I hope this helps...

Hello everyone,
my setup:
- LaCie 500 mini home Ed + Xbox 360 wired to ClubBox V2
- iMac running OS X 10.5 on wifi
no problem accessing read/write files on the network.
but audio or video streaming (divx) on Xbox 360 worked well for 3-4 days,
then the same bug as you,...cut off every 5 minutes or so...
tonight or tomorrow I will test a new router (D-Link)
I'll keep you posted....

Good evening,
It works!!!!
I connected a D-Link DIR-615 router (http://micro-informatique.fnac.com/a2259958/Reseau-Routeurs-D-Link-DIR-615?PID=50252) after my modem. To the router, I have connected:
LaCie mini Home Edition 500 GB (ethernet)
Xbox 360 (ethernet)
iMac OS X 10.5 (wifi)
and everything works (Internet, video, audio...)
I tested it again with just the box and..... it doesn't work, bugs within 5 minutes.
So for me, the problem comes from the router functions of the ISP boxes that are not sufficiently developed.
See you later

Good evening everyone,
I just bought a Lacie ethernet disk mini home edition 500GB and I am using a Freebox V5 via Wi-Fi.
I connected my mini disk to the Ethernet port of my Freebox, installation successful, I have access to my mini disk from the interface.
However, I would like to configure remote access to my mini disk and I am stuck....
Regarding UPnP, I can't find where to enable it on the Freebox HD, do you know how to do it?
Apparently I can't find anything about it, do I simply need to open a port for remote access and if so, how should I go about it?
Thank you!

Hello GiBe4,
I am experiencing exactly the same problem with a PS3!
I tried the wired connection instead of WiFi, a direct connection to the Lacie, ... without success.
It's quite frustrating because what influenced my choice for the "Lacie Home Edition" was the UPnP support. Moreover, the Lacie website shows an example of its use with a PS3 (see http://www.lacie.com/imgstore/more/UPnP_diagram.jpg).
Not only do I get regularly disconnected, but the web interface is very slow and the drive seems to be constantly active (the blue LED is almost always blinking and the drive is "grinding" regularly, even though I haven't performed any action on my part!!!???!). Lastly, I can't play DivX files (even though the PS3 can do this, for example from a USB stick) - Are you encountering these problems too?
In short, either I completely messed up the configuration, or this product has a serious issue... or both at the same time!)
Sorry I can't be of any help... and for good reason...

Hello Tristoche and other HipServ companions,
Perhaps you've already done it, but for those who don't know: Lacie has recently released (at least, I only saw it recently!) a new version of HipServ (v 1.6.2.1_LH, see the release note http://lacie1.hipserv.com/files/releasenotes/HipServ_1.6.2.1_release_notes.pdf) fixing a number of issues...
After the update, I've noticed that the frequent disconnections (HipServ-PS3) and the divx streaming problems I had encountered have disappeared. However, the web interface doesn't seem to have gained speed. In short, it's not perfect, but it's fair to say there has been some improvement...
