Booting antivirus from a bootable CD

Question

Hello,

a virus has infected my laptop and prevents me from logging into Windows (XP PRO).
I do not have the XP CD, and the manufacturer (Dell) offers to send it to me for a fee.

I think the solution is to be able to run the appropriate antivirus (here MSNFIX) from a bootable CD, and thus clean the PC.

Could someone explain the step-by-step procedure to me, please? (after consulting some topics in this forum, it's quite fuzzy for me, especially the Linux aspects...).

I have a doubt about updating the antivirus on Ultimate Boot CD... especially for killing worms like Restarter.f

How can I insert an antivirus of my choice on the CD (for example, MSNFIX)...

Otherwise instead of msnfix use sdfix or msncleaner.

Download MsnCleaner.zip from ElPiedra and extract it to your desktop. (Right-click on the .zip file and then Extract All).
Copy the following address into your link:

Restart the PC in Safe Mode and log in with your usual username. To start in Safe Mode.
Double-click on MsnCleaner.exe to launch it.
Under Language, click on the little arrow and choose French.
Click on the Scan button.
At the end of the scan, a report will be created.
If the tool finds an infection, click on the Remove button.
Restart in normal mode.

• Press Y to start the cleaning process.

You should try a Linux CD (Ubuntu live), but I don't know much about it.

You can repair Windows in MS-DOS

At startup, (if I remember correctly): choose to start from your Windows XP CD or your floppy disk

then choose repair as soon as you have the option (which will allow you to repair only the critical files and not reinstall all of Windows)

If CHKDSK does not find Autochk.exe in the startup folder, it attempts to search the Windows installation CD-ROM. If the command does not find the installation media, it asks you to provide the location of the Autochk.exe file.
