Garmin map transfer Closed

Question

Hello,
I have a problem. I bought a Garmin eTrex Venture HC, a great device at a low price. I want to transfer my maps. I installed City Navigator 2008 in Mapsource and I can see all the details in Mapsource. I select my region which is (REPENTIGNY, QUEBEC City Navigator North America) and I transfer it to my GPS, but I am informed that the map is locked. I don't understand, because I have the key for City Navigator North America 2008. If anyone has information to share about the process, please help me. If I can't get my regional map onto my GPS after purchasing Mapsource and City Navigator North America 2008, I will return this device. Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.12

You need to create a file with Notepad that you name gmapprom.unl in which you copy the unlock code (25 characters) that should be found on your My GARMIN account (in my maps).
Then you copy this file into the GARMIN folder on the Micro SD card; if the garmin folder does not exist, you need to create it.
You will then have a garmin folder containing a gmapsup.img file and the UNL file you just created.

Disconnect your GPS and off you go

I bought a Garmin Edge 705 with a Benelux + France SD card
I copied the IMG and UNL files into the Garmin directory of my GPS (there was already a standard original map) and I still get the message "unable to unlock maps" when starting up.

It's normal that it doesn't work since the unlock code for the cards is specific to each device, so when you change devices, you need another unlock code. There are two solutions: the first one is blocked by the site, so I can't use it, and the second one is to go to the mygarmin site, log in, and click on 'add an unlock code' or 'add another device'. They will ask you to register your GPS and give you the new unlock code; I hope it's free.

The funniest part is that they thought the association between the device ID and the unlock code would prevent hacking.

I have a Nuvi 550, I just bought a blank MicroSD card (not from Garmin) and I want to put the TopO Benelux map on it (map ID: 1411).

But since it's a non-Garmin SD card and anyway on the site, mygarmin, there is no Topo Benelux map in the selection of SD cards that can be added, I'm stuck...

It asks me for a serial number for the SD card, but I don't have one...

What should I do?

It's on mygarmin.com, to unlock the maps.... He sees that there is an SD card in the nuvi, gives him an ID, but asks for a serial number....

The nuvi 550 is designed to accept Topo and marine maps normally...

I have the same kind of issue; I have my original map on the GPS. Everything works, the map is there and the route calculation works.
For storage reasons and to save space, I transferred the map (.img) to my micro SD and the surprise is that when I restart, there is nothing at all. The 705 can no longer find the Europe mapping? The micro SD is well detected since I can read the topo maps (e.g., Pyrenees) without any problem.

Is it a code issue (City Navigator Europe 2009 map) or a card issue (SD 4g0 hemlet)?

Unlocking MapSource but not GPS: could it be the GPS serial number used instead of the GPS ID?

Indeed, you should not take the ID marked on the back of the device but the one in: Mapsource/utilities/get the unit ID. Mark this ID in the Garmin_Kgen and away you go.

On the SD card, I have a gmapsupp.unl file with a valid code for transferring the City Navigator map, but what should we do to transfer BlueChart maps as well? Should we overwrite the existing code with a new one that works for both types of maps? Or should we put 2 codes in the unl file?
