Hello,
I resurrected a GPSmap 420S by replacing the mini Li-ion battery (button cell style) on the circuit board. This battery, which normally gives 3V, was barely over 2V. I replaced it with a slightly larger battery, purchased from a Chinese site for a few euros.
If anyone is interested, I could post some photos.
My GPS wasn't completely dead because I noticed that during its last "non-functioning" (no position displayed), it had actually recorded my track perfectly (from the anchorage to the water exit ramp). However, I couldn't get it ready for navigation. Since I changed this little battery, it locks onto satellites like before. Today, I am on land and testing it via an external power supply. Everything seems fine...
I'm here to help those who want to heat up the soldering iron.

first of all, thank you for the information. Currently, I also have a 420s with a similar satellite acquisition problem; it detects satellites after about an hour. When I turn it on, it asks me if my position is close on an approximate map, I answer yes, and then I have to wait a lot. To date, I performed a reset and updated the GPS, and it worked perfectly with immediate reception. A week after going out to sea, the problem returned. I wanted to know if you think changing the battery could solve my problem, and if so, could you show me pictures of the part to change? I look forward to your response, thank you.
I have the same problem with a 520s. I assume there can't be any big differences in the circuit boards. I can't seem to locate this li-ion battery like a coin cell. Could you please send me the reference of the battery you replaced it with (and if possible, a photo of the original one)?
Thanks in advance
Hello
I saw that you resolved a GPS connection issue. Could you please send me the photos?
Thank you
