How to access the BIOS on an HP Pavilion?

Here’s how to access the BIOS on an HP Pavilion computer:

1. Turn off the computer.

2. Turn it back on and immediately start pressing the F10 key repeatedly, about once every second.

3. If that doesn’t work, you can also try the Esc key immediately after turning on the computer, which may bring up a menu where you can select F10 for BIOS settings.

Timing is key, so make sure to start pressing the key as soon as you turn on your computer. Good luck!

Hello

For HP

F1 = information system
F2 = diagnostic system
F9 = boot option
F10 = access to BIOS
F11 = system recovery
F12 = network boot

Press one of these keys as needed at PC startup

In the BIOS, if you have a recent PC (2008 +), be careful to enable UEFI to boot from a CD or DVD with a different OS than Windows 8

UEFI is a pre-BIOS environment that can perform specific diagnostic and configuration tasks. Since the end of 2008, some HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario laptops support the UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) environment. This means that most laptops shipped with Windows Vista, and all those equipped with Windows 7 or 8, include the UEFI environment

The UEFI environment provides access to technical information about the computer and includes diagnostic and repair tools that can be used during the boot process, outside the operating system. These tools are not available on older laptop models, even though the updated BIOS on these older models may support HP (UEFI) system diagnostic tools.

Hi! I have a problem with my CD-DVD drive. Here it is: I don't know why, but when I insert a CD or DVD containing files, I can see them on my computer; however, when I insert a blank CD or DVD, nothing shows up on my computer!!! It's as if I haven't put anything in!!! No presence! So, that's it!

For your information, this no longer works. HP locks its computers to prevent the change of operating system. No access to the BIOS and, above all, inability to boot from the DVD except for Windows 8 maintenance operations, which is practically unusable compared to XP and 7.

I just, after confirmation from HP customer service, threw a brand new laptop in the trash. (definitely no more HP) This is truly the first time this has happened.
