1) VIDEO CONTROLLER compatible with VGA under XP, Me, NT, 98 ...
Complete installation! For all uses [Games, work, graphics, etc.]
You can do it in 5 minutes or 1 hour to say hooray I did it if you follow these steps.
For the more tech-savvy and nerdy of computer configuration, I advise you to skip to the last step, otherwise to do a good job, please follow all the steps (friend's advice!)
Happy reading.
To find your video controller -- Just look in [Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager] for the name of your motherboard, to see whether your video controller is integrated into your motherboard ... or if you have a graphics card, when you purchased your computer, you were probably given boxes with installation disks; for XYZ reasons if you don't have them, it is possible to find your drivers at https://www.touslesdrivers.com/ ...
If you still don't know what I'm talking about or where to look ...
To avoid too much tinkering and to get everything in one go!! I suggest to simplify the search that you equip yourself with this configuration revealer:
https://www.driverscloud.com/ it will fully tell you what your computer contains.
There are also Averest and Testlab which are programs a bit more for the knowledgeable.
From there!
Make sure to check the name of your graphics card, in addition to the version of Windows you are using, Windows 98!! or XP Home? Pro / home? ...
[ For Vista, I don't know how to explain the rest to you? But here is a good start! ]
- Your WINDOWS XP ... is it a 32 or a 64 Bit??
The only thing I can tell you is that generally you run in 32 Bit and the Pro version runs in 64 Bit,,, Am I talking about cars?? About the year of French wars?? Not at all. reassure your grandfather or your father who already tells you ... IN 32 I was... in 64 I did ... I'm talking about bits here.
I even learned that if your XP and your Windows runs in 32 or 64 [it’s not the year of a war, Grandpa, it’s the number of bits ... yes, Grandpa, that’s bits, it’s like vapor hair!! :-) ]
Not being a pro in explaining bits, I found these explanations
Bits = Binary number -- If you want to push the research to its peak, I recommend Wikipedia on the page - Parallel processing of bits! Happy reading to all those who like me once did Basic on a Commodore 64 or a Vic 20 ... It will bring back memories, sniff! It was a beautiful time when everything had to be done by hand! We formed a whole with our computer and even knew why our green text screen was blinking ... :-)
-----------
Quick tip from a blogger to find your version of Windows:
If you have Windows XP Professional, go to "Start > Run then type WINVER", look at the bar at the top of the window, if it says "Windows XP Professional," it’s a 32 Bit, if it says "Windows XP Professional 64 bits," you will have your answer. Likewise, XP Pro 32 bits is a NT 5.1 version, but the 64 bits is a NT 5.2 version!
For Windows Vista Pro, Enterprise, and Ultimate versions, a right-click on "Computer" and then properties will open a window where it is mentioned 32 or 64 bits

--- Uh ... OK you know what your XP is! ... The name of your Motherboard and your Graphics Card.
Now --- Let's continue!
2) Update your video system with THIS:
a ] Find THE YELLOW Exclamation Point!! Reinstall the driver for your VGA video controller
Under Windows XP and older -- by right-clicking on your desktop that is on your main Windows screen, then go to properties [Desktop / Properties / Hardware and find the name corresponding to your graphics card Nvidia or Radeon, etc. and click on it to see the + to view the name of the card, if there is definitely a yellow exclamation point,
--- Update the driver by following the indicated steps. By double-clicking on the yellow exclamation or question mark and selecting Update Driver!
double click on the Yellow point / Driver / update the driver.
IF nothing can update, you will simply need to install and update at the same time your DirectX + your graphics card ... :-)
- Update DirectX 9 = http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9226A611-62FE-4F61-ABA1-914185249413&displaylang=fr
There is DirectX 10 ... for game players and all versions of Windows but really! I recommend the version that has been running since 2004 and is likely to work with your Windows and to update it easily!!
Now let's move on to the final step ... after restarting the computer and updating DirectX, and checking the motherboard's territory, graphics card, yellow question mark -- there's only the installation of your VGA Controller left:
----
To install your graphics card and get your VGA controller: ...
You generally need your Microsoft .NET Framework up to date!!
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262D25E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=fr
AND FINALLY and finally!!
Your VGA controller:
Here’s how to install it -- If you’ve made it this far in this installation. Be proud of yourself and congratulate yourself, you just became friends with your computer! -- :-) and it will return the favor!
-------------------
- INSTALLATION of the video controller (VGA compatible):
with the recommended program at point 1) -- Maconfig.exe --
- Find the name of your motherboard (If your video card is integrated! standard PCI graphics card (VGA))
or
- Find the name of your graphics card ( - Ati Radeon, Nvidia, Sis, GeForce, Rage, etc. )
And go directly to download the VGA DRIVER from your provider's site with the indicated name.
don’t forget your 32 or your 64 ... :-)
and have a great day!

Hello everyone, in fact, your video controller problems are mostly quite simple to resolve
in any case, you should go to the manufacturers' websites of the machines
for example: acer t135 go to www.acer.com (this is for those who have pre-assembled machines
then there are those who opted for custom PCs, for them there is only one solution: first search for the brand of the motherboard and its model and go to the manufacturers' websites.

Despite the fact that this issue dates back several years, I find myself in 2012 with the same problem as you others.
Already, it's very surprising that I notice that no one has provided precise and concrete answers. Because generally, when the device manager indicates "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)", it means that it is a generic graphics card, meaning that the PC does not have a proper graphics card but that the motherboard contains a generic one that allows for troubleshooting. To know what type of update to perform, you indeed need to know the chipset of your motherboard. In my case, it's an Asrok 775VM800.
To resolve this issue, either buy a proper graphics card (a real one) or perform an update knowing the chipset, but I know it and I'm stuck. It's an old PC still on a single core dating from 2006 or 2007 that I bought from a store that builds desktop PCs, but the store no longer exists, and I can no longer call the seller to help me explain.
I have a question mark under the graphics card: video controller (vga compatible) the update I launch from the manager does not succeed because it asks for a CD, but the seller never gave me a CD for that. It seems that the update wants to go through because I see the yellow folders transferring files, but it keeps doing that continuously as long as I don't insert that damned CD.
What should I do?
If I could, I would buy myself a new PC with a dual processor instead of my dinosaur having a single proc. but I'm struggling too much, no money, no means, cursed crisis!!!
Who can help me? Please? I have an Arock motherboard with a 775VM800 chipset and an Intel Celeron 2.666GHz processor.
I'm on Win XP SP 2 or 3
I specify that via run (windows key + R) the command dxdiag and in the DirectX diagnostic tool window under the display tab it gives me no information about the video controller... and graphics card (since it's generic)?
