Personal Excel Spreadsheet to Sort Music!!

Hello,
I am a mobile DJ (event host) and I want to sort all my songs from all my CDs (about 150 CDs) and enter them into Excel to create a table like this:

1st column: song title, 2nd: artist, 3rd genre (rock, disco...), 4th: CD number where the desired song is located (easier for searching later! lol!)

It seems pretty simple, the problem is that I make compilations and several songs end up multiple times on different CDs (basically, the same song can be on 2 or 3 different CDs).

All my CDs are numbered, and in the 4th column "CD number," I will inevitably have multiple numbers for the same song from time to time!

The problem is that during my events, I have my laptop, and people come to ask me for songs. So when I sort by the "song title" or "artist" or "genre" columns, it works perfectly, but when I want to sort, for example, all the songs from CD number 10, if a song is on both CD 10 and 15, it won't sort it for me!

What can I do? Knowing that I'm not an "Excel pro"... lol!

Thank you...
Configuration: Windows 2000 Internet Explorer 6.0

If you want all the songs from CD number 10

you sort first by the CD number, second by the song.

Another solution, you set an automatic filter and on the CD column you select your CD number

    I can't understand you!
Whether the first criterion is the CD number or the song makes no difference, right?

Moreover, how do we deal with the automatic filters? lol! And anyway, if I have 2 CD numbers in the same cell, will it still sort them?

For your info, I only number the CDs, not the songs! lol! I just want to know on which CD(s) the song is!

I know, I'm not good at Excel and I partied all night, so take it easy on me this morning and please express yourself in French if possible! lol! Thanks!...

The order of the criteria is essential.

Sorting by CD number/song is quite different from sorting song/CD number.

If you don't understand, try the manipulation first.

    Basically, I need to do:
    A B C D
cd number song title artist genre

    Is that it???

But if I put (once again...) several cd numbers in column A for the same song, will it still sort them?

We'll get there... let's keep up the morale! lol!

You cannot have multiple CD numbers for a line in your Excel file, otherwise it's the ...

For the filter, select your entire table (press ctrl + A), then choose the Data menu/Filter/AutoFilter.

    It's within everyone's reach

    Well, that's exactly THE PROBLEM!!!!!!

I have several CD numbers in one line!!!

So what should I do??? Here’s what I have so far:

    simple example:
    ........A......................B........................C.....................D

    ..song title...........artist..................genre................CD No

    .....YMCA..............village people.............Disco...............03 and 24

If I sort all my songs by title, author, or genre, no problem! but if I want to display all the songs from CD 24 for example, well since CD 03 also has "YMCA," it bugs....

You would need as many lines as you have couple/song CDs.

But the filter solution can satisfy you, since once you have applied the filter, you can select a column by indicating for example "contains xx and YY".

In your example, you would specify for the CD column "contains 24". Please try it.

What do you mean by "song/CD couple"? I don't want multiple lines for the same song! Otherwise, the table will have almost double the lines! lol!

I don't have the file right now, I'm at work! But I'll try this evening! lol!

    Any other solutions possibly?

If you don't want multiple lines for the same song, stay in the current configuration. Try the filter after work and let me know.

    It's me again!

During the break, a colleague gave me part of the solution!!!

    I'm doing:

    .....A.....................B..................C..........................D...........................E.........................F................etc....

    song title.........artist............genre...........cd number 1 (01 to 10).......cd number 2 (11 to 20)........cd number 3 (21 to 30)....etc...

    ....YMCA.........village people .......disco.........................03.........................12.......................22

    roxanne...............police.............rock.....................................................12.......................23

But the problem is, if I have "ymca" on cds 12 and 14, then it doesn't work...

We tried with "dummy" data, it doesn't work with the auto filters!

    Hello
I'm providing you with a sample file linked below that allows you to find the list of titles and related information by <b_displaying the="" number="" of="" sought="" disk="" in="" yellow="" cell.="">
The result appears in the yellow columns to the right, while the left columns filled in red represent the entries
If this meets your expectations, we can adapt it to your wording and ensure it's presentable, with a hidden spreadsheet.
However, it is necessary to enter the CD numbers one per column on the song lines, with a maximum of 7 columns allowed.

Look at the attached model with the filter https://www.cjoint.com/?mFlxKmUk2J

Go to column D, click on the arrow, select "custom", then choose "contains" and in value put 4 for CD n°4

Wow! lol! This is exactly what I was looking for!!!

For the 7 columns, we can forget the rankings by tens (1 to 10, etc...) and just put the CD number (e.g., 7 in the first column and 9 in the second column), it's not a problem, on the contrary, so I think there won't be more than 4 (or even 5, but that's not certain) columns! lol!

However, how do you sort by title or author? Everything is "frozen" there! lol

And if I want to add songs, so rows?

    Claude Claude

there's a good start but it's much more complicated and we have to redo all the filters every time!

    Vaucluse

Nice table! lol! So how do we modify it???.....

It might be a bit challenging for a novice, but we'll get there.

I can redo a reference file if you tell me:

_How many titles you have in the rows (we can easily go up to 65,000, but it's better to limit ourselves to what's necessary)
_How many columns you use for your information (Title, Author's name, etc...)
_How you want to display the results
_If you want to display other options in the same way

If you want to see what's happening in the file, you can remove the protection:
Tool / Protection / Unprotect Sheet
Select columns K to R, Format / Column / Show
and then you will be able to see the system

In any case, we can stick to 7 columns for the CD numbers, it doesn’t cost anything and who can do more can do less!
I will create a clean file with all your information and the manipulations on a hidden sheet so you won't have any issues using it. I will include explanations so you can find your way. Once you have the right key, it's not very complicated.

PS: I won't be able to do this tonight, but probably at the very beginning of next year....!--
