Nintendo DS serial number

I have a Nintendo DS, how can I check if the serial number written on the back matches the DS I have in my hands?

Hello, I'm in a different situation
I had my DS stolen by someone I know, but how can I prove that it is mine???
Because I think you can't prove anything with the box??!!

The serial number of a DSi or DSi XL, etc., is only marked on the back of the DS or underneath the battery. (For those who want the number under the battery, you just need to unscrew the rectangle on the back of the console and remove the battery, then put everything back.) And for you Joris, maybe the barcode on the box of your DS can prove that you bought it, but I don't see any other solution.
