Poor audio quality in Audacity recording

I tried to install Audacity at a friend's place but I’m getting both the music and our voices. I think it’s just a configuration issue with the software but I don’t see which one. Personally I’ve never had this problem on my PC; Audacity was already set up. In addition, the recorded sound isn’t great.

First, have you unplugged the chewed wires? It may seem trivial, but a short in the sound card can cause damage.

Next, what is the export format? Between wav, ogg, mp3, flac and others, there can be a difference.

Are your export formats set correctly? For example, mp3 can use a whole range of bitrates (the number of bits of information encoded per second in kb/s), which can result in sound quality ranging from awful to wonderful. You will find this in Edition > Preferences > Quality.

To listen, use a simple player; it’s generally lighter than a full-fledged audio editing software.
